Pregnant after IF

Vent: Stubborn baby = costing me $$

Let me first say that ,yes, I know babies cost $$ and what-not so it's not a "I'm broke" vent, just a "I'm still paying off the IVF and now this, vent".

Since she won't turn (still breech), I will need a c/s. Since I need a c/s, I will be out for 8 weeks vs. 6 weeks. Those 2 extra weeks = 1 extra paycheck at the extremely reduced STD rate. I just went over it all with my HR rep and basically, needing to be out for those 2 extra weeks ~ $1K less in my pocket. ::sigh:: Well, at least I know now and can try to re-work my budget for while I'm out. I hope that people don't mind getting smaller Christmas gifts this year !

  • Who cares if people get smaller presents!?
  • Oh hon, I feel you.   With our due date being 1/2/12, we are going to do everything we can to get this baby out and discharged by 12/31/11.    If the baby is born and discharged by 2011, we literally save thousands of dollars with our insurance deductible and the tax implications.    I will be trying every old wives tale in the book!   :-)

Sorry that baby is being so stubborn!   but you're giving your family a baby's first Christmas for Christmas, so smaller gifts seem completely appropriate.   :-)

Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • I'm sorry, it does suck.  I'm so hoping to avoid bedrest b/c we don't get paid maternity leave or STD.  So if I have to go out early, I have to start my sick and vacation time which I've been saving for years so I can take 12 weeks of paid leave for my maternity leave.  I don't understand why things are so different state-to-state and business-to-business.  It really should be more standardized.

I hope for your sake she still may turn so you can have the birth you want and not have to lose out on that money.  People better be expecting smaller Christmas gifts from me this year, lol!

  • Ugghh I was just coming over here to gripe about STD too.  And we've already made it clear that we aren't doing presents this year.  If people want to buy for the girls they are welcome to, but I asked them to please not get us anything because we aren't doing any buying this year.

    Diagnosed PCOS 2/07, TTC #1 since 8/09
    11/10 - Clomid Round 1 = BFN
    12/10 - Clomid Round 2 = BFN
    1/11 - Voluntary Break = BFN (duh)
    2/11 - Clomid Round 3 = BFN
    3/11 - Femara + IUI = BFP * Beta#1=56 * Beta#2=266

  • I'm so sorry.  I hope you're able to rework things to get by - it sucks we even have to pay IF expenses on top of the baby expenses!

As for the Christmas presents, I'm sure your friends and family will be understanding.  We're scaling back our Christmas too!

  • i'm sorry, that sucks :(

employers should make it so much easier/simpler for women to take leave.

  • I'm sorry - money worries suck esp when you need to be focusing on more important things.  My OB is fine with returning to work 6 weeks after a c/section.  Could you ask if yours will let your return then?  One of my co-workers came back after 4 weeks after her third baby and all she needed was a note from her provider.

I, on the other hand, am stretching my leave out as long as possible b/c I still have no daycare ACK!

That's true, although she will be the oldest of 3 new babies by the time Christmas comes around (sister is due in Nov & cousin is due beginning of Dec).
