I am totally writing this because I have to AW that LO said mama. I am 99% sure that he was just vocalizing and didn't actually mean it, but he looked at me when he said it both times. And it sounded awesome.
And the sweetest thing happened. I finally put our family portrait from his 6-month pictures in a frame, and I showed it to him. He looked at it for a second and then started beaming and reached out and touched his dad's face in the picture and cooed. So cute.
He's starting daycare today. Luckily he's already got a friend there (ladywalton's LO!), but I know it will be a hard transition. DH is dropping him off for about 2 hours, and we'll go for longer the rest of the week.
Re: check-in!
Just a quick check in for me too.
DS started preschool last week and has already got his first cold from it, AND passed it on to his heavily teething sister. YAY GERMS! I knew that this year was going to be hard as far as that goes, but goodness, two days of school and both kids are sick?! He loves school though. He cried the first day and then the second day he was crying b/c he only gets to go twice a week. Hopefully he is up to going tomorrow. He'll be really disappointed if he can't go.
DD had better get some fvcking teeth soon. How long can they be :thisclose: without actually popping through? Seriously. They've been that way since she was 6 months old. I'm hoping that b/c she was up at 9:40, 10:30, 11:00, 12:30, and 2:30-3:45 last night that they're actually coming soon. She's also got DS's cold though, so it could have just been that. Uugh.
On a happier note for DD, she's really picking up in the communication. She signs more, all done, up, and milk consistently. She says yum, ehsh (yes), mama and mah, which seems to mean either milk or more. The girl has got some skills. DS didn't have that many words until well after he was 12 months old.
C just had his check-up and he's up to 19.6lbs, and 28 3/4in long! He's not crawling yet, but he babbles all the time, and like babysaint, he's saying "ma ma ma ma" over and over. We got the OK to be "more aggressive" with the solids, so we will be starting to offer him teething biscuits, some mashed meats, small cut up cooked carrots, etc in the next week. We'll see how he does with that.
My overnight to IA for a wedding went well, and since it was just one overnight, I was able to pump and store my milk in the ice bucket that was in the room. It kept really well. It helped me feel more confident for when I need to do more work-related overnight trips. I was initially thinking I should start weaning so I don't have to deal with that, but I think I am going to try doing a big morning pump session (before work starts) and then pump immediately after the work activities, and see how that goes.
Mssaint - I'm sure he was saying mama and that he knows who is in the picture. That's so sweet.
Agrippa - Love the new siggy and I'm glad DS likes preschool so much.
LadyWalton - Glad your overnight went well.
Not much is new with us. DD#1 and I played with playdough for hours over the weekend. She loves that stuff and we actually stayed on one activity for more than 5 minutes which was great. Yay for playdough! As noted in the post below, she can now climb out of the crib but has not yet decided if she wants to sleep in the crib or the bed.
DD#2 had her 4 month check-up on Friday and is still tall for her age and doing great. She still wakes up every night at 3am for a bottle so DH and I have resigned ourself to trading off each night. The pediatrician said it's normal and that we can do CIO when she's a bit older but for now, we need to give her the bottle.
We just got back from J's two-year appointment and he is great. He's perfectly on track for height/weight (50th percentile for height and 50th-75th for weight)--mssaint, I'm sure you can appreciate the joy of being totally normal :-)
He is talking in sentences, and starting to do pretend play, which is a real kick to watch. He's also starting to try to dress himself and "help" us cook. Birthday aside, seeing him in his winter clothes again--jeans/cords and button down shirts--is really driving home the fact that he is a kid now and not a baby at all. Ack!
I think I mentioned at the last check-in that we have started timeouts. I think I need to read 1-2-3 Magic, because he is definitely starting to do some boundary pushing and ignoring requests, etc. The timeouts do seem to work well, though.
All in all, he is just so much fun to be around. When he drops whatever he's doing and runs over to me when I pick him up at daycare, it's the best part of my day.

DS's vocabulary is continuing to amaze me...several new words a day. He makes me laugh on a regular basis and will be playing and all of a sudden come over and decide to give me a kiss...it makes my heart crumble into a pile....
he has been so good with everythign going on the last few months too, between all hte house damage(which btw...is taking steps BACKWARDS), we still have a fully unlivable first floor and then the m/c which of course he doesn't know about but it still made things around here a bit "different" he is such a trooper and truly the love of my and DH's life.....:-)
audrey turned 1 on saturday! wow, the time has flown by.
she is running around like the wild woman she is (who NN her little Lindsey when i was still pregnant?). she says mommy and da-da and hi. she waves hello and bye. her most favorite thing in the whole wide world is to chase her big brother around. i'd love to have more kids just to watch that! she's eating everything these days, must be going through a growth spurt. she's still nursing well, but less interested in BFing in general than T was at this age.
the most difficult part of being her mom has definitely been adjusting to her much more independent personality. tomas NEEDS his mother. audrey often acts like she can take or leave me and frequently wants her pop over me.
i know a lot of babies go through phases, but audrey has always been this way! must not take it personally. she's just an independent little diva!
tomas is getting his blue belt in tae kwon do on friday! we are so proud of our little martial artist. he practices and works hard every day on his techniques. he proudly showed off his "20 muscles" to me the other day and announced that he can run 64mph. uh, really?
T is very much momma's girl right now. Every morning is a struggle to get her to let DH help get her ready. He can't carry her downstairs (the little diva shows no interest in trying it herself most of the time). DH says "can I pick you up?" and her response is "NO! Momma pick you up!" I keep trying to enjoy it while it lasts, but it's hard when I can't leave the room without a little person glued to me and wanting to be carried wherever I'm going.
We had a huge food success this weekend - she tried pizza and liked it
She told us several times that she didn't want to try pizza, and since she refuses to try ice cream I was really worried that she may have been switched at birth
Thank you, Pete's Apizza.
We sold our house and are building a new one that is nowhere near ready...so we're in an apartment for a few months. It has been quite the transition for us, and DS has been such a trooper. He is completely in love with all the stairs (we're on the third floor - even though we had a 3 story townhouse, apparently these are much more exciting!) and knock on wood, has been sleeping well. He's still our early riser, but is always so happy when he wakes up that we manage to get an extra half hour with him just amusing himself talking in his crib.
He is talking mostly in full sentences, which DH teases me about all the time. I think all I talked about on here for a few months around 14 - 18 months was my fears about his lack of talking. The kid does.not.stop.talking.ever. It's pretty entertaining!
The bonus on living in an apartment until the new house is ready - the commute from home to work and daycare will go down from 45 minutes to 5 minutes, come December. It's going to be lifechanging, just for that!
Lindsey, I think artslvr and I came up with LL. And my DD is much more independent than my DS.
DS is 15mo and everywhere, that kid can climb and has no fear, none! I am thinking of enrolling him in baby gymnastics when he's 18mo. He finally reached 30" - I have fears he'll grow up short and no one will want to date him! No fears of him not eating enough though, he's over 26lbs and loves loves loves to eat. If DD ate 1/4 of what he eats, I'd be super happy. He is behind DD in vocab but she was such an early talker, the pedi said they only expect 4 words at 15 so he's actually ahead of his peers. I think he might go straight to sentences LOL
DD's tantrums are out of this world horrible. On the plus side, she's so sweet and polite sometimes, for ex. saying "excuse me, Mommy, may I help you put away laundry" - why, yes, you may! She is so excited for her upcoming 3rd b-day next month and asked for Thomas on her b-day cake. I need to show her the toppers I found online and have her pick one out. I am gonna get a COSTCO cake and put it on top.
Fine here! O started preschool last week and hope this week is another great one. He is day potty trained 100% but about 90% night trained.
I go in on Friday for my 20 week ultrasound. Praying all is well with the little guy, and that my SCH (subchorionic hematoma) has healed completely. I've been in full on nesting mode and I'm loving buying nice new stuff for DS#1 because I know our second son will be able to wear them too in a couple years.
First week in the 3rd trimester and just starting to collect the essential nursery items! Fun to think about and I don't have to do any of the lifting
We switched care providers because we wanted a home birth option and had the first appointment with Birth Care yesterday. It was so nice! The previous appointment at the DC Birth Center left me feeling all worried - they told me my uterus was measuring "large" and they have a group care model that sounded like a good idea until I was in the meeting with tons of cell phones going off. BirthCare in Alexandria is just a better fit for us and everything is on track. I feel more at ease.
This is our first and the first grandchild on both sides (first great-grandchild on my side!) so we're still just overwhelming with all the information collection re: birth options, pregnancy exercises & prep, baby supplies, and child care. Thankfully, both grandmas have agreed to come out for a month so we can delay putting LO in day care for 2 months
It's a really exciting time of family transition.
DD1 is doing so well. She was three on 8/13 and she is such a little personality. She makes DH and I laugh all the time - three is such a fun age! She does have her moments of tantrums, but they are getting better. She is fully potty trained and it's awesome. She loves her sister so much that she wants them to sleep in the same bed. She still gets anxious around new people and doesn't like loud noises, but we are teaching her how to deal with the anxiety.
DD2....ahhh, the last two months have been challenging (see sleeping post). She was such an incredibly easy baby, it almost feels like our baby was swapped out for a new baby. Last week she reached over and pulled DD1s soup on to her lap and caused second degree burns. That was terrible experience. On the plus side, she randomly started crawling last week. She showed zero signs of it, she only every wanted to pull up and cruise - then, bam, she started crawling, just like that. She says a few words (ball, no, and a version of her name). Her first birthday is tomorrow. I can't believe that she is a year old already!
I love seeing our two girls together and I look forward to seeing their relationship grow.
