1st Trimester

I need my roots done!!!!

So I'm starting to feel crappy... so "bloated" and my clothes are fitting tighter... and to top it off, my roots look HORRIBLE!!! I really need to do something to feel better about myself, but what can I do??

Can someone shed some light on what you can/can't do in the first trimester as it relates to highlights or a dye job? I usually get highlights (which is what I prefer) but if I need to, I can just go back to my natural color and dye it if that would be better for the baby)... help! I'd like to make an appointment for the morning of my u/s next week because I look like a HOTT MESS!!!  Confused

  • It's fine to get them done! I just had mine done two weeks ago!

  • I finally got my roots done last week after trying to hold out as long as possible...I have been coloring my hair for years and I am sad to say I had so much root growth that I no longer have to wonder what my natural hair color is. Having nice hair has made me feel 10x better! I say go for it and enjoy!

(I think highlights are actually "better" because the dye doesn't actually touch your scalp...that being said I went for all over color)

  • Ugh!  Mine are just as bad--gross!  It won't hurt you to get highlights as long as the room is ventilated.

  • Get your hair done!  Seriously though with my 1st pregnancy I thought it was a big no-no.  My doctor laughed and told me to get my roots done whenever I wanted.  My hairdresser also told me she dyed her hair through all 4 of her pregnancies and has 4 healthy kids.

  • i got my hair done a week before my BFP, and had not dyed it since. i did however give myself a terribly short haircut. couple that with my red-faded-to-orange with an inch of ashy roots, and i just couldn't take it anymore. i dyed the whole mess dark brown on saturday and i feel much less ugly! (the fumes did make me a little queasy though)

  • I was feeling the same way.  I had grown my hair out super long for my wedding and never have it long and my roots were disgusting...So I finally made an appt and got some highlights and lowlights and chopped about 8 inches off (a cute shoulder length a-line bob) and it feels amazing!!!! Go for it and have a pamper day!

  • Girl! Get them done! I actually teach cosmetology school. There is no reason that you cant put color on your scalp. It doesnt go into your blood stream. If anything the fumes may bother you a tad however your stylist will surely let you get some fresh air outside while you are processing. Have fun!! I just did my roots fri night!!
  • It's totally fine!  I'm a hairstylist and work with color most days of the week, my doctor's have had no concern about this first or second pregnancy.  I have a perfectly healthy 2 year old.  So go ahead and don't feel guilty.  If it really concerns you stick with the highlights as the color in in foils and doesn't even touch your skin.
