The No-Cry Sleep Solution? Anyone try this?

I tried CIO lastnight...it was absolutely horrible and I was only out of his room for 5 minutes before he threw up all over his crib...I'll never do it again.  I understand CIO and Ferber work for some families, but our family isn't one of them.

That being said -- I'm still pretty desperate.  Has anyone tried the The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night by Elizabeth Pantley?  I'm considering getting the book, just wanted  to see if any of you ladies have tried it and how it went?  TIA!

  • I read both NCSS and Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Baby by Weissbluth, and used pieces of both. C will work himself up to the point of hyperventilation, so pure CIO doesn't work for us; but I found Weissbluth's explanations more helpful than Pantley's. For us, it works if we go in the room quietly, avoid picking him up completely (unless there's obviously something very wrong/pain), and re-set the 'go to sleep' routine menas he goes back to bed quickly when he does wake up; and having ocean sounds go non-stop for white noise all night led to STTN  most of the time at about 9mos old. Good luck!

  • CIO won't work for our LO either. We ended up doing pick up/put down from The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems, and that worked for us. I read NCSS, but found the Baby Whisperer more helpful for our family.

  • I am generally anti-CIO. When we were having sleep issues a couple of months ago, I bought NCSS. The week I bought it, DS started STTN and has ever since. I told DH that the book worked so well, I didn't even need to read it! haha

  • We did with my first son when he was about 15 months old.  It worked wonderfully. He was all about being held non stop every time he woke up which was numerous times each night.

Now, with number 2, we have a very back nurse to sleep association and I am having a bit more of a problem with NCSS in terms of this.  I don't necessarily see the whole nurse for less each time approach to work...but I will continue with it.  Good luck!

  • Yes, we followed this method when Morgan was 3 months old. It worked well, but she didn't really have any sleep habits at that point.
