Favorite Lullabies

What songs do you remember your parents singing to you when you were small?  Will you keep up the tradition or start a new one?

My father played the guitar and the two songs he always sang just for me were "You Are My Sunshine" and "Puff the Magic Dragon."  My mother always put me to bed with the short song "Bye Baby Bunting" -- I still remember the words but I can't seem to find the tune online anywhere!

Re: Favorite Lullabies

  • My dad used to rock me to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" --I used it for the father/daughter dance at my wedding.

My grandmere would sing French songs to me as she was a war bride. She passed away this summer, but was so excited for the twins that I think I will try to sing those to them just to honor her...

  • I grew up in Poland so all mine were in Polish. Sorry, no help there!
  • My dad did all the bedtime singing and he usually sang non-lullaby type songs.  "Mona Lisa" was apparently one of my favorites and I was a big fan of Kenny Rogers.

I know I've already used "Goodnight my Someone" from the Music Man and "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel to sing/soothe the baby at this point in time.

I made a cd of lullabyes in college and it has these songs on it:

    • Mockingbird
    • Lullaby (Ben Folds Five)
    • Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye
    • Brahms Lullaby
    • Children's Lullaby (Vertical Horizon)
    • Mrs. Potter's Lullaby (Counting Crows)
    • Goodnight Starlight (Juliana Theory)
    • Afraid to Sleep (Dido)
    • Feed the Birds (from Mary Poppins)
    • Too Rah Loo Rah Loo Rah (Irish Lullaby)
    • Goodnight My Friend (Vertical Horizon)
    • Do You Sleep (Lisa Loeb)
    • Goodnight My Angel (Billy Joel)
    • As I lay Me Down (Sophie B. Hawkins)
    • Forever Home (A Father's Lullaby)
    • Count Your Blessings
