D.C. Area Babies

So, DD transitioned herself to the big girl bed this weekend...

Some of you may remember from a few weeks ago that I was thinking of transitioning DD to the big girl bed in her room. I first tried it during a nap and it didn't go well so I decided to keep her in her crib for a while longer.

Her crib is next to the big girl bed in her room. On Saturday, I put her down for a nap in the crib and she slept for a few hours. Then I heard her rumbling around in her room so I went in and imagine my surprise when I see her sitting on her big girl bed. She exclaimed with pride "I climbed out!" So, I realized that this was the end of the crib.

We had a date planned for that night and DH's parents were coming over to babysit which meant that they would get the pleasure of putting her to bed for the first time in her big girl bed. FIL said that he put her in the crib first and she expertly climbed out with the precision of an acrobat. So, he stayed with her for a while to try and get her to sleep in the big girl bed and she eventually fell asleep on top of her covers.

We got home around 10pm and then the ILs left. Around 11pm we get a phone call from ILs that DD wouldn't let them put a diaper on her so she wasn't wearing a diaper! I was already half asleep and DH was reading. He told me this and then kept reading. I said "aren't you going to go put a diaper on her?!?". He went up and she had already wet the bed on the beautiful, expensive Pottery Barn Kids quilt that I splurged on (normally I wouldn't buy luxury bedding like that). Ugh! Fortunately, the instructions said that you can wash it in the washing machine so everything is okay. I knew it would get messed up over time but I didn't think it would get pee on it the very first night she slept in the bed. Oh well. Tonight I put her to bed and she's already gotten up once. Hopefully she will stay put. I told her that big girls don't get out of bed. Who knows whether that will help.

  • She definitely marked her new bed as her own :P  I hope she settles in quickly.

  • good luck, sounds like she's ready

and wow, I admire you for letting your ILs put her to bed in her big girl bed, there is no way I'd let anyone else do that; good for you for keeping your date!

    sorry about the quilt :(

  • Okay, so I just went in her room to check on her and make sure she was asleep in the bed. She put herself in the crib! I guess she likes the security of the crib. This girl keeps me on my toes.

LOL.  Also laughing at the fact that the ILs forgot to tell you dd was sleeping sans diaper.

  • DD tried wearing panties today.  FAIL.  She peed all over the floor.  An hour later, she pooped.

    UGH.

  • Uggh. I have no advice, just empathy. That's not true, I have one piece of advice, don't convert the crib to a toddler bed if you need the crib for the next child. My DD is in love and went from sleeping. Fifty percent of the time in the big girl bed to zero percent. We only have parenting fails when it comes to transitions. Sorry about the quilt, we have one too and it is very washable.

Like that wasn't the most important piece of info!  Good luck though with the rest of the transition.

Oh no! When we started potty training, DD wet about 10 pairs of underwear the first morning (we were loading her with fluids). So, you will probably need a lot of underwear. I hope it gets better from here.

Haha, I was actually thinking that maybe I should convert the crib because I don't want her to hurt herself by climbing in and out. But, I just may remove it at some point so that she doesn't want to stay in it long term. Plus, I want to finish decorating her room and I can't until I move out the crib.
