I doubt anyone remembers, but I posted that they found a UTI that I didn't know I had at my first appt when they sent off the culture. I'd been having a LOT of pelvic pain, but I just had a c/s in April, so my OB said it was most likely that. Well, I started taking Keflex and it was giving me horrible chest pains and shortness of breath. So the OB told me to stop and started Bactrim. THAT was freaky. The first time I took it less than 5 minutes later my entire body started itching, my hands, feet, and face got really hot and red. Then my hands and feet felt numb. My tongue started itching. I called my mom to come over because I was ready to go to the ER. By the time she got there it had started subsiding. So I called the OB again and she said absolutely not to take it again. But... those apparently are the only 2 abx they can give, at least in 1st tri. So she said to drink lots of water and avoid sugars and cross my fingers. For probably 3 days I felt great, now the pelvic pain is coming back. She said if my back starts hurting (goes to my kidneys) or I get a fever to call. This sucks.
Re: UTI that can't be treated
Is there a broad spectrum antibiotic that would get it? And also, are the painkillers ok in pregnancy? Last time I was pregnant I hadn't even started having symptoms when I started the antibiotics (they caught it before I even knew!) and so I never got the pain killers, but in the past I've taken some weird pills that make my pee bright orange but take the pain out of the uti completely. I have NO idea if it's safe though.
Man, I'm so sorry you are going thru this. I am allergic to most antibiotics so I know how much it sucks. Have you tried Cranberry Supplements? It's an alternative to drinking cranberry juice and you can get a more concentrated dose. Hope you find some relief, I had a bladder infection and was given macrobid and was wondering today if it was coming back b/c I was having the same type of back cramping I had with it before.
You may want to try parsley tea. Take dried parsley leaves and make a hot tea out of it. Drink as much as you can throughout the day, and of course cranberry. I have never been treated for a UTI and I'm 40. I'm convinced that it is because the minute I start to feel bad in the bladder region I drink parsley tea. That is not to say that those who definately have a UTI shouldn't go immediately to the doctor.
On top of that like most teachers I have the bad habit of not going to the bathroom all day. I'm lucky if I go at all during the school day.
