Assuming that you're not talking to your child (especially when talking to him/her), what do you call your DC's teacher?
I had to call DS' teacher the other day, and it felt really awkward to call her "Mrs. So-&-so," but it also didn't feel right to call her by her first name. I guess it doesn't feel so weird when I'm talking to DH, for example, about something Mrs. So-&-so said, so I guess I err on the side of formality????
Re: How do you refer to DC's teacher? (clicky)
I call them what they introduce themselves to me as. So DS's preschool teachers all said their first names when we met (and if they called me they would say Hi this is Julie), so I always called them by their first names. His Kindie teacher introduced herself to me as Mrs. G... so that is what I call her.
I'm a high school teacher and parents always called me Mrs.M...., even when I was right out of school and much younger then them.
I agree. As a teacher myself, most parents call me Mrs. Lastname. I sometimes feel its presumptuous when they start off calling by my first name w/o me telling them to call me first name. I feel like I'm their child's teacher, a professional, not their buddy. Know what I mean. There have been a few parents over the years that I've had many sibling in the same family. Most of those parents do call me by my first name, but I've asked them too.
My son's preschool teacher introduced herself to us simply by first name, including DS. I feel a little weird about it for DS so we've taught him to call her Mrs. First Name, we referred to her by Mrs. First Name in his presence but when DH and I talk to each other or talk directly to her ( without DS around) we call her by her first name.
Yeah that. I assumed it would have been Ms. "Smith" but she refered to herself when she introduced herself to Harmon as Ms. "Jane" so that is what we go by. Her aides do the same thing. If he has a new teacher and she refers to herself as say last name only or first name no Ms. than we will follow suit.
Some are Ms. First name (public pre-school) and others prefer Ms. Last name (private pre-school and pre-K).
We go by how they're listed on the school newsletter and how they introduce themselves to the kids.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
everyone is called Miss First Name
I actually called DD's old teacher just FirstName earlier this morning and DD corrected - "No! She's MISS firstname!!" LOL
The kids call the teachers Miss FirstName or Mrs. LastName (whatever the teacher chooses), so that's what I use when talking about them with DD. When talking to them directly or emailing them, I use their first names because that is how they introduced themselves and also sign their emails.
