I actually just set one up yesterday in our living/dining room. DS and his things have officially taken over. Hard to say what he really thinks yet, but he seems to like it.
I bought a set of Wondermats off of Amazon.com. They are not puzzle shaped, but I am guessing you are wanting mat reviews more than puzzle reviews. I read tons of reviews for the different kinds of mats before I bought these. Cat hair doesn't stick to these, they don't soak up the spit up, and there are not a zillion little pieces for baby to take apart. They are also thicker than the skip hop ones. I am really thrilled with the purchase. Grippy, easy to clean, baby has crawling traction, they don't slip on our hardwood, etc...
However, I didn't pay $95 for them. That's insane. We paid $60, and that was 2 weeks ago. It looks like there are a couple sellers on Amazon so you can price shop.
EDIT: Reading comprehension FAIL. Sorry, Bumping and watching a football game. We set up the mats in our living room, with a supergate around 80% of it. We can open the supergate up and LO has more room to crawl out onto the living room rug and where the sofa/chair is. He loves it- we are in here with him and he is safe crawling around and falling over on the mats.

We set ours up in the living room with a baby jail around it that we can open and close as needed. I'm pretty sure he likes it - he's always taking the shapes out of the tiles and chewing on them.
