Trying to Get Pregnant

Great Sperm Race - WOW!

I had heard about the Great Sperm Race about 6 months ago from this board, but I have just never watched it until this morning. I highly recommend it! With that story it's a wonder that anyone ever gets pregnant, but this is very educational and answers a lot of questions for anyone TTC.

Re: Great Sperm Race - WOW!

  • I know! I saw it yesterday and it amazes me that people are even able to conceive. I felt really bad for DH's sperm.

  • Just watched it this morning, as well. I really enjoyed it and am trying not to let it make me feel hopeless about our chances. It truly is a miracle that so many people get pregnant despite the odds. I can't wait for DH to watch it.

It made me laugh that they used a study involving strippers, though. I could see their reasoning, but I can only imagine how those scientists explained that one to their wives: "Honestly, I'm only going to the 'gentleman's club' for research!"

  • I'm going to watch it again with DH when he gets home from work also. LOL about the strippers! I was thinking the same thing. How would you even begin to explain that??!

All in all that documentary will make me appreciate the gift of life EVEN more knowing all of that now.

I was also amused by that stripper study part -- it sounded like a pretty cool study, but I had questions... I mean, did they exclude strippers that were taking BCP? And if so, how many strippers could they find that weren't taking BCP/some kind of hormonal BC?

Anyway -- I'd also recommend the program to anyone that hasn't seen it.

  • After seeing it mentioned yesterday, I watched it on youtube today. I had no idea numbers diminished so rapidly. Now I understand why there are such low odds of getting pregnant each cycle. It amazes me how often people are successful at conceiving now. I'm learning a lot fast since starting the ttc journey.
    Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
  • That's too funny bc I finally watched it this morning too! I never realized there were only like 2 sperm that made it to the egg, not the hundreds like I thought before

This all over! making the sperm human and giving them faces and then picturing them all dying all over the place..Made me feel bad too LOL!

  • I just finished it and also found the human representation of sperm who were dying all over the place a little creepy, but extremely cool. What a great documentary. I learned more than I thought I would.

  • Just watched it with DH and had a great laugh. It was nice to share it together. Downside, he has started to call my vagina a 'death trap', but I just tell him he knew that already ;)
