1 yr Mirena no period and now sudden period?

This is my second Mirena IUD (had one after the birth of DS).  I don't have periods with the IUD (after the predictable early months of irregular bleeding).  I haven't had a period in over a year and suddenly BAM!  Heavy period.  I'll call by OB tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this?  I have back pain, cramps.  I have heard of expulsion and all that but haven't noticed anything unusual.  My strings were cut very short, so I can't really tell if it's still there or not but certainly haven't seen it fall out.  I have been under unusual and extreme stress (work and family stuff) and wonder if that has anything to do with it...  Anyone ever encounter this?

    A month before I had mine taken out I had a period (like you I hadn't had one since having it put it) it wasn't heavy though, but I did have some moderate cramping. I would still call you OB in the morning (obviously). I hope it is just because of your recent stresses!

    It wasn't heavy and only lasted a day or two, but otherwise, yes-- no period for a over a year and then I had one.  I asked about it on another board I'm on and a few other people said the same thing happened to them.
