Yeah, I know everyone keeps saying that it's genetic and you can't help it, etc. But I don't think that's the full story really. I got stretch marks in puberty so I thought I would defintiely get them in pregnancy and I have. They started coming in around 5 months or so, despite my putting on lotion daily and just kept coming.
So there was a sale on bio-oil and I picked some up out of curiousity. I've been using it for a month now and I am not getting any new stretch marks. The ones I do have seem a lot less angry as well. I gotta say that I wish I was using this stuff from the beginning! Maybe I would have still gotten some marks, but I really feel like it's totally helped.
Anyone else using it and noticing a difference?
Re: Stretch marks and Bio-oil...
I use bio oil and have since about 12 weeks (although not religiously) and dont have any stretchmarks yet.
I am not stretched yet though (if that makes sense) so its not that surprising. I feel like there is still room in there before I get that tight skin feeling.
Its the one good thing about having a little cushion to begin with I suppose
No, but I have a bottle of it! I have been using Bella B's tummy honey... recently in the last week the baby moved up and I finally have some semblance of a bump. But my skin feels itchy if I don't put the lotion on - so I put it on first thing in the morning and then I put the butter version (thicker and waxier) on at night after showers.
I'm with you - I think that stretch marks are definitely genetic, but I think they also can be helped by lotions and oils, etc.
I may have to switch from Cocoa Butter to Bio Oil if it really works. I have been using the Cocoa Butter since about 8-10 weeks 2-4 times a day and I just found a few tiny, tiny stretchmarks starting on my sides right above my hips
and a few on the underside of my breasts.
It sucks because my Mom had 4 kids and not a single stretchmark. My Sister has no stretchmarks at all and I have stretchmarks on my lower back/side area and thighs from growing. I guess the good genetics went to my Sis and the bad ones to me
I'm terrified they're going to take over my belly like my SIL's and BFF's did.
I know I still have some stretching to go because I had a little belly to begin with so I am praying that if i do end up with stretchmarks, that they stay on my sides and lower back like before and fade away at some point.

My SIL did not have a single stretchmark until around 38-39 weeks and she gave birth at 41 weeks. Her stretchmarks now take over the entire lower half of her belly. She also used body butter creams/cocoa butters and what not the entire pregnancy. Best to her knowledge no one in her family has strechmarks..
I like using the Bio Oil but my favorite is Burt's Bees Mama Bee. I really didn't like the Palmer's Tummy Butter. It was so thick and made clothing stick to me. The other two products don't do that. I don't notice stretch marks but SIL says she noticed small veins come to the surface of her tummy and after pregnancy, those areas finally became stretch marks. I will just have to wait and find out what I get!
Bio oil worked for me! I gained a lot of weight in my early 20's and had red angry stretch marks.
When I started losing weight, I used bio oil with drinking lots of water and exercise and they faded to where you can only see them if you are looking for them.
I noticed an agry red one again a few days ago, have been using bio oil and it's already faded.
I know they say genetics, but it's not all gentics. There are enviromental factors as well. On my weight loss forum they had a list of things that would make you more prone to stretch marks and make it harder to get rid of them, ie tanning a lot, smoking, not enough water in your diet, etc.
