I currently have a carryon bag packed-- DH needs clothes too so it has both of ours (he needs a bathing suit if we use the tub at the hospital plus a change of clothes/ flip flops for himself). I also have a separate bag with some baby stuff in there (clothes/ baby book/ notes from our birthing class/ etc ... I am bringing a few different things depending on how big she is).
I used my book bag. And I didn't end up using most of the stuff I packed. All I used was my deodorant. Mind you, I was discharged less than 24 hours after he was born.

LOL we probably have way too much packed. Both DH and I have a duffle bag packed (although his is practically empty), then I have the diaper bag packed for baby, plus a second small bag with all of his cloth diapers that we'll hopefully use at the hospital...then I have to carry my boppy separately because it doesn't fit in the bag. SO much stuff! Oh and two pillows to carry in separately as well (one for me, one for DH)

I used a carry-on sized suitcase plus small duffel, but that was for DH and I. In the end I did overpack but I figure you really don't know what you'll need. Some of the things I brought really didn't work post-c-section or because I was so swollen, but neither of these things are guaranteed to happen to anyone.
I used a reusable bag.. the kind sold at grocery stores (publix one).. I didnt take much. toiletries clothes for ke and baby .. flip flops hairbrush camera batteries phone charger. I was also dishcharged after 36 hours.
We weren't in the hospital for the full 48 hours and I barely used anything that I packed. Probably the most important things were phone charger, camera and toiletries to take a glorious shower. Also, my active labor was really fast (24 hours), so I didn't really use any of the "coping mechanisms" that I had brought with me.

I am using a small carry-on sized suitcase too. Since dh is staying with me for at least 2 nights, I am just going to combine my stuff and his in there. Then I am taking our diaper bag with the stuff we will need for baby.
We have a carry-on bag packed too, and then the laptop bag for all the electronics-related stuff. Plus pillows for both of us and the boppy, which we'll have to carry separately. And the car seat/base. I'm sure we way overpacked but I'd rather not have to send DH home for anything.

We packed a ton, but that's just how I am. I overplan. We have a labor bag (our diaper bag) with snacks, toiletries, and other stuff. Then a laptop bag with all the electronics, notes from class/book and other distractions. And then a pp duffel bag with blankets and multiple clothes options for her and clothes for us.
I'm packed in a medium sized duffle bag, with extra room. DH is coming home every night so I figure if I need anything he can just bring it back for me. We only live about 15 minutes from the hospital. The thing that is taking up the most room in the bag is the viacord collection kit - if I didn't have that then I would just pack in a backpack.
Basically all I packed were comfy pants, nursing tops, toiletries and an outfit for DD. We'll throw the electronics in when it is time to go to the hospital.

Thanks a lot girls! It sounds like I'm not far off from where many of you are. And at the end of the day I'd rather have too much stuff then wish I brought something more! Back to waiting...
I have a small duffel and a big diaper bag packed, but as the days drag on, I keep thinking of more crap I could put in there... so I may switch to a bigger bag!
Seems silly since we live 10 minutes from the hospital... but eh...
