3 mos & refusing bottle

And my 1st day back at work is tomorrow. Any ideas? She has taken bottles before, but we were lax in not doing a daily or even weekly bottle. First, I thought the milk was bad. But she will not even take a fresh bottle of expressed BM.Any ideas? I'm freaking out here! I'll be gone for about 14 hours tomorrow. She is at my parents' house and just crying. Acts hungry but refuses the bottle. What can I do?Thank you. XP to BF board

Re: 3 mos & refusing bottle

  • Have you tried warming the nipple (and the milk, of course) and offering the bottle while holding her skin-to-skin? Someone on the BF board a while back suggested having her forehead or cheek rest on someone's bare arm while they cradle her to feed a bottle. Anything your parents can do to mimic nursing should help!

  • This is kind of what kacelle said, but when we first tried to get DS to take a bottle, I gave it to him and held him as I would to breastfeed him. Very close and right next to my breast, except I made the bottle nipple available. Once he took that, DH tried giving him one while holding him close in the same way.

    Good luck!

  • We had the same problem a while back. What worked for us was; first, we went through different bottles until we found one brand he liked (he'll only take tommee tippees, nothing else) second, I had to be completely out sight, if I'm anywhere near he can smell me I swear lol and won't take a bottle, third, the expressed BM has to be room temp, not warmer or colder (pretty much the temp it feels when I pump). We have accepted that when I'm away LO just won't eat as much, but at least he eats enough. GL!

  • We went through the same thing a few weeks ago and then I realized it might be time to go to a faster nipple; totally worked!

  • I am still struggling with this, but thankfully she is at daycare 4-5 hours and sometimes will take an ounce. She will not take onefrom my husband. Holding her close like nursing worked and only tommee tippee bottles. People suggested to mehaving her sit in a bouncy and be distracted (which worked a bit).

  • Well, I ended up being cancelled so I didn't work. We will be working on all these suggestions this week. Thanks ladies! Knew I could count on my May Bumpies.
