oh poor legs

So I havent had a problem ever with this until today! I was sitting down when all of a sudden I believe i developed restless leg syndrome. I constantly need to move my legs and it is really annoying. Anyone else have this? TIA for any information

Re: oh poor legs

  • Sometimes I have to get out of bed and just walk around my house for 10 minutes or so.  Walking after dinner also helps.

  • I get this all the time especially at night before bed! I stretch and that seems to help alot. Hope it gets better!

  • Restless legs have plagued me since second tri. Mine got so bad a couple times that they didn't calm down until 6 in the morning. Blah.

Some things that have helped me:

    walking around

    stretching

sitting / bouncing on a yoga ball

soaking my legs in hot water just before bed

putting on relaxing music and trying to take my mind off the restlessness (I often fall asleep with my iPod on these days)

putting Vicks Vapor Rub on my legs at bedtime <-- This actually helped me the most, oddly enough! I just tried this last night and got more than 4 hours of sleep for the first time in two weeks! Camphor oil, peppermint oil, or Icy/Hot have also been said to work.

Some people are helped by additional supplements -- either an iron supplement or a calcium / magnesium supplement (I tried a calcium / magnesium powder called "Calm" that I added to water just before bed. It didn't help me that much, though.) You'll probably want to talk to your OB or midwife before doing these things.

I hope you find something that works for you! It has been a constant mess of trial and error for me.
