2nd Trimester

XP: overanalyzing my due date..

I'm doing another homebirth, so to get a u/s I have to go to a women's clinic and pay out of pocket. Hopefully I can get one middle of next month, but for now I'm left to ponder since I was breastfeeding and my LMP was in April.. I'm having factors that could mean I'm farther along or my current EDD.

-I had spotting at the beginning of June, so MW put that as 2 weeks PG (i thought she would put that as 4 weeks, but okay) and set my EDD from there.. Which meant I started getting symptoms before around 3 weeks (bloating, moody, skin breakout), but I didn't get symptoms with DS until closer to 10 weeks..

-Couldn't find HB at first appointment at 9w0d. We had been able to hear DS' at 9w5d appointment and I'm skinnier this time around so should have been easier? It even took a while to find it at 13w3d appt and it swam away after a minute..

-At 14w I was feeling for my fundal height and I had a large hard lump under my bellybutton. Now at 16w my fundal height is about an inch above my bellybutton. With DS I was always spot on with fundal height (bellybutton at 20w) and I know subsequent pregnancies mean stretchier uterus, but measuring ~6w ahead?

-I'm barely feeling movement yet whereas I had already felt strong kicks from DS by this point. Could be because I'm always running after DS though hehe..

This doesn't really matter, since baby comes whenever and I'll have a better answer in about a month, I'm just curious if you think my edd is right, I'm farther along, or that I need to put on my big girl panties and stop comparing my pregnancies..Stick out tongue

  • I don't necessarily think any of these symptoms are that telling-- they could mean anything. I had spotting right before I got a BFP, and about a week after-- so when I was 3 weeks 5days pregnant (ish) and then between 4.5 and 5 weeks. But with my first pregnancy, I had spotting at 6 weeks. Spotting can happen anytime, although isn't technically 2 weeks pregnant around the time you ovulate?

I don't know anything about fundal height, so I can't help there.

Could you have an anterior placenta? That might be reason for not feeling as much, but regardless, 16 weeks is still early no matter if you've been pregnant before or not.

I'd definitely try and get an ultrasound in 3-4 weeks, and then they'll have a better idea. But yes, I think you should stop comparing pregnancies. Ultimately 1-2 weeks off in an EDD isn't that big of a deal, most babies come within this window of time anyway. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what the actual date they've given you is.

  • Hmmm, I think it would be wise to not compare so closely your pregnancies.  So far mine have been VERY different so far.  You'll get an u/s in a few weeks so then you'll know for sure.

You're right also in that the EDD isn't all that important unless you're having a planned c this time.
