My husband really likes the name Abigail and I do too, BUT... I don't want it to be her first name due to the nickname Abby (lots of friends including his sister have dogs named abby and so I associate it to dogs...)
Solution:: Abigail as the middle name? The only issue is we can't think of a first name that flows well. Our last name is Rapanaro, so it's already pretty long....
p.s. My favorite name choice is Cora, but it doesn't fit with Abigail and we're also having a hard time finding a middle name for it. I would want something that's just as unique.... no Lynn's, Rose's or Lee's... but also not way out there.
Help with ideas?
Re: Cora or Abigail? HELP!
Oh, please go with Cora! I absolutely love Cora, and I don't think the world needs anymore Abigails...
I don't think Cora Abigail would be half bad... The repeating "a's" aren't awesome, but they sound fine. Other MNs I like:
Cora Violet
Cora Elise
Cora Beatrice
Cora Elaine
Cora Penelope
Cora Paige
Cora Matilda
Cora Jane
I agree. Cora Abigail R is fine.
Cora is so fun, spunky and way less popular. I really hate the name Abigail, it's not pretty to be at all.

I like the name Abigail and DH loves this name, but I'm with PPs it's way too popular
Personally, I love the name Cora and I like the flow of Cora Abigail. I also like Cora Elaine as suggested by PP.
LOVE Cora!
Cora Jocelyn
Cora Elizabeth
Cora Elise
Cora Marie
Cora Magnolia
Love these suggestions!
We have a similar problem. I really like the name Lillian. But Im not to fond of the NN Lily. DH has a close family member with a dog named Lily. Some of DH's family members are not very shy and say whatever comes to their mind... and I just know that they would make up some type of rude joke about the baby being named after a dog.
... I think Abigail is a very pretty name tho and if your DH is willing to not shorten her name by giving her NNs then I would consider using it. You can always correct other people in a nice way when they call her Abby.
What's wrong with Gail as a nn? She doesn't have to be another Abby.
Cora Abigail is lovely though.
ETA: read the part about your ln after posting. I would not use Cora with a last name starting Ra---. Corinne might work a little better, but I'd still probably avoid it.
