I was a junior in college and living in the sorority house at the time. A pledge sister of mine woke everyone in the house up and was telling us all to call our mothers.
When I walked into my room, my roommate was watching CNN. At that point we were both still half a sleep and didn't realize it was a terrorist attack with planes, not bombs.
We ended up watching TV the rest of the day and classes were cancelled. I couldn't get a hold of my parents at first, so the first person I called was a cousin of mine in Norway. Later in the day I had to pick up some kids from school that I babysat and they didn't know anything about the attacks. It was hard keeping them from the TV, waiting for their parents to tell them what happened.

I was a freshman in college and was in my freshman psych class at the time. The president of the university actually taught the class (one per year), so they had to come in and stop class to let him know what was going on. After that, he left and a teaching assistant told the class what was going on. They released us to go to chapel (I went to a Christian university that had chapel every Tuesday and Thursday morning.) First I went to my dorm to call my parents and check in with my roommates. As soon as I walked in I watched a tower collapse live on the news. We all went and sat in chapel and watched the news on the big screens for the majority of the day. I was scared to death! First time living away from home, in another state, alone, away from my family.

I was a freshman in college in GA. I was asleep in my dorm room when this annoying girl from down the hall came banging on my door, crying hysterically. She yelled out "They're crashing planes into buildings and the White House!" Slightly wrong, but I turned on the news in time to see the second tower fall. My entire dorm building was a madhouse. We all talked about what was going to happen.... was war coming to the US? Were we going to keep getting attacked? My dad was flying that day and I couldn't get in touch with him. I freaked out.
11th grade Spanish class. ( I'm 26). We were about to take a test first thing that morning. Every classroom had a TV that doubled as a computer monitor. My teacher heard about it from another teacher, then turned on the news. It was on in time for us to see the 2nd plane hit, and we saw them fall down live as well. The girl sitting behind me was confused and didn't know what the Capitol building was as they started talking about the pentagon and other potential targets. I recall an announcement being made over the intercom as well. We continued to change classes but just everyone just had the TVs on and we sat and talked, and didn't do anything.
I was a junior in college. I had an 11am class that morning. I woke up at my usual time that morning and took a shower. When I got out of the shower, I went to my room and turned on the TV. It was the first thing I saw. The first plane had hit about 10 minutes before. I just couldn't believe it. I continued watching and saw the second plane hit. It never occurred to me that the towers could fall until I actually saw it happen.
I continued to get ready and headed to class. I stopped a couple of people I knew on campus and most of them had no clue what had happened. When I got to the classroom, I found out that classes had been cancelled. So, I drove home. I spent the rest of the day in my room watching the news and crying.
My DD's first birthday is tomorrow (9/11), and when I went into labor last year on the night of 9/10, one of my first thoughts was that I was going to have a 9/11 baby. It made me sad that she will be celebrating her first birthday on the 10 year anniversary of such a tragic event, but it also gives me something to be happy about.
I was in college and I didn't have a class until 11am that day and I was supposed to have had a test. I had stayed up late the night before studying and I had planned to sleep in a bit. My cell phone woke me up with my mom telling me to turn on the tv that a plane had crashed into the first tower. At that time I think they were thinking it was an accident. I woke my roommate up and we watched, and saw the second plane hit the tower and the realization that we were under attack hit us. Classes were cancelled so we just watched the news on and off most of the day.
I was a junior in college and was walking back from my 8am class. We had dismissed a little early and I was walking back to my dorm. Someone ran past me screaming about terrorists and crashes. I ran back to my room and watched tv for the rest of the day with my roommates.
I was a freshman in college and heard it on the TV in my suitemate's room. I knocked on her door and asked what was happening, and we watched together as the towers fell.
