Do they have a backpack? What size? My girls started last week and were the only ones without them. We just bought full size ones today and they're as big as them. The little ones dont look like they fit very much. What does anyone else have? Thanks
We got DD1 the PBK size small for preschool. She had a Skip Hop zoo pack (the owl) for her MDO program, and that was fine for a just change of clothes. But for preschool they want them to have one that's big enough for 8x11 paper or a folder without smushing them up, and most "preschool" sized backpacks aren't big enough.
DD1 can handle the PBK small just fine as far as getting it on & off and hanging it up by herself. Mostly it's just for carrying her change of clothes and water bottle. It's big but not overwhelming, and I fully expect it to last us at least through kindie.
DS started pre-school last week and he has a backpack. We bought him a smaller one, that I'd say would fit a 3-5 year old well. I think a full size one would be way too huge for him, and the things he needs it for. He uses it for his snack and water bottle, and for papers the teacher may send home with him.
I saw some cute ones at Old Navy today...they look bigger than the one I just got my dd from PBK (on clearance for 14.99) but smaller than regular back packs.
i would find out what needs to go in the backpack first. we made the mistake of buying a smaller one for DS (about 13.5" tall...suitable for his size), but it wasn't big enough since it turns out we need to fit his bike helmet in there along with his clothes and papers.
DD has an Elmo toddler backpack. She doesn't have to carry too much to school (extra clothes, pull-ups, asthma meds), so it is the perfect size for us.
Mine aren't in preschool yet (just the kids' program at church and at the Y) but Alex has a SkipHop toddler backpack (the frog one) and Will has a Buzz Lightyear backpack from Target. They are toddler sized and honestly I think anything bigger would really be too big for them to comfortably carry, 8x11 folders be damned.
We got the preschool backpack from LLBean and its a great size for my little man. Big enough to get a few diapers, a change of clothes, a sippy and a bit more into!
We got DD one from PBK. I think we have the small one. Our friends had the preschool size, and said it was too small, so we went a size up. It is slightly big for DD, but she loves it! We figured that she will use it until Kindergarten or 1st grade, so I didn't mind paying a little more for a quality backpack.
My kids have Wildkin backpacks which are super cute & small enough for them to wear (although still kinda big on them) but they don't hold things like a bike helmet by any means...we use them more for road trips/day trips to hold snacks, water, some books, small toys, etc.
I think it would really depend on what your preschool is expecting you to put in them. My kids go to daycare & backpacks are not a requirement, they all have cubbies so things tend to stay in the cubby and I use a tote bag to take things to & from.
What are they bringing in their backpacks? DD goes to preschool 2.5 hrs 2x/week and doesnt need to bring anything (they store extra changes of clothes on site and they provide snack/drinks)....
We got the girls their backpacks from Lands End. They don't have as many styles to choose from as PBK, but they are a lot less expensive. The quality is great and I am sure it will make it through 2 years.
Looks like it is on sale for $9.99 each, which is a great price. I paid 15.99 back in August. I got one in pink and one in purple and had their names embroidered on them. The will hold a standard 2 pocket file folder, change of clothes and a lovey. My school uses a 2 pocket file folder as a communication folder to go home every night to communicate things with me.

Thanks everyone. I went to TRU and all they had left were full sized backpacks. I brought some home and they were pretty silly on my small girls (took some cute pix, though). Now I ordered small ones thru Amazon...wish I had known about that Lands End one!
**regenab...your adorable girls remind me of mine...one blonde and one brunette...very cute

Lands End is having a super sale it looks like.
I ordered one for my son and a matching lunch bag, too. Not girly ones of course.
