xp from 6-9 month, places to live in mass

Hi,We may be moving to MA sometime in the next few years. I may be able to transfer to Framingham and hubby is a computer programmer, so would likely have to work in Boston. Can you tell me what areas/suburbs/small towns are easy access to Boston, have great schools and just all-around great place to live?? TIA

  • The towns between Framingham and Boston are all pretty nice but also very expensive. (Newton, Wellesley, Weston, Wayland).  Framingham or Natick might be good options.

  • your DH might end up in the "technology belt" for a job. my DH is a software developer and works in Waltham. Lots of places along Route 2 are nice communities and easy to go to Framingham and also into the city. I don't know what your budget would be but towns like Arlington, Belmont, Lexington are great family communities with fabulous schools but are expensive.

  • Thank you ladies!  We will probably rent for the first year or so. Looking at a rental range of 1,000 - 1500/ mo at most. I have lots of time to research, so thanks for all the suggestions :)

  • Check out the Boston board on the Nest. The ladies there might have some town recs for you.
  • DO NOT move to Framingham, schools are terrible and the community is on a downward turn to poverty. Also the mixed population is bringing in a lot of crime.

Yikes. Just a heads-up, prices here are crazy. 1,000-1,500 will likely only get you a 1-bedroom, maybe a 2 if you're lucky. If you're downtown and he's in Framingham, you might be better off living downtown and having him do a reverse commute--unless you can use public transportation to get downtown. Also, we looked at DCs in the Natick/Wellsley area and centers were at least $400/wk. I'm a little bias since I'm from the midwest originally, but you definitely don't get your money's worth around here. Check out home prices before you decide to move!

  • If you look hard, you can find a 2-3 bedroom, likely unrenovated place in Arlington or Newton in that range, likely in a 2 family home.  Look on Craigslist.  We spend around that so it is possible.
