So I registered for a medela freestyle pump...but then I was talking to a friend of mine who swears by Avent (their pumps, bottles, etc.) Any thoughts on this???? Or any one have some experience with this?
I've used both. I had a Medela for work, and an Avent at home. I had a long train/walking commute, and it was so much easier having 2. I had better production with the Medela. The Avent took a little longer, and I got less ounces.

My Avent manual was awesome, but just not practical for pumping at work since I needed to double pump due to time constraints. I used a borrowed Medela PISA with Avent bottles. This adapter attaches from the pump to the bottle so I could pump straight into the bottles we liked.
I have the Medela PIS and it's great! We used Dr. Brown bottles with DD and liked them. I didn't care for the Avent bottles because they leaked a lot for us.
Medela all the way!!! I bought an Avent to begin with and it was a waste of money. I ended up going back and buying the Medela Freestyle and cannot say one bad thing about it. It's amazing!!
I have a Medela freestyle and love it also. It's so small and portable. I pumped at work and my commute was 45 minutes each way on the NYC subway. I needed something light weight.
I did not use the "hands free" contraption -- but you don't really need it to pump hands free anyway. That was not a major deciding factor for me. Also - Medela has really great customer service and a long history of making great products. Not to say that Avent does not have these things. I also used the Medela nipple sheild for nursing. It was the thinnest one I could find and had a little "hole" for where his nose was while nursing. I did not like the Avent nipple sheild becuase it was so thick.
I've never heard any bad things about Avent -- but anyone I know who has a Medela freestyle or PISA loves them.
Thanks for the feedback! I was comparing because I had a bad experience with Medela both in hospital and after my daughter was born. It wouldn't pump at all. I ended up giving away the very expensive Medela pump that cost me way over 250. I'm hoping that this time around if I go with another brand I will have more success.
