Jogging stroller ?'s

How old does a child have to be before you can put them in and use a jogging stroller to actually "jog"?

If you have a jogging stroller, which one do you have?  Would you recommend it?

If you have any other advice comments on them I'd greatly appreciate it!

Re: Jogging stroller ?'s

  • I think the rule is about 5 - 6 months old before you can jog with them in it.

I have the BOB revolution.  It is my only stroller and it is amazing.  Best stroller ever, and it is also a jogger.  I can't tell you enough how much I love this stroller.

As a test for you... stop people on the street and ask them what they think about their strollers.  If they don't have the Bob, they say, "Oh, yeah, um... it's my stroller, works fine... I dunno."  If they have the Bob, they will go on and on about it.  That was my little test before I got mine, and it really works for everything (it has an attachment for the car seat when the baby's little--but you need a Graco or PegPerego car seat).

  • I've heard 6 to 9 months before you can jog in it. The bob has an infant car seat adapter so you can use it before then, but you can't jog. Basically you just need to get clearance from the pediatrition before you can jog with the baby in it (for neck stability).

We bought the Bob revolution for our LO to be. I'm so excited to use it. Amazon Mom has them 15% off through the 21st I believe. You can ask the girls on H&F for more recs if you aren't getting a lot on here. The Bob is the most popular though. The good think about the revolution is the front wheel can lock (for running) and unlock (for everyday use) vs. the Ironman, which is cheaper, but the front wheel is fixed.

  • We have a BOB Revolution and then just  cheap stroller from BRU. I do love the BOB it is perfect for when we go camping and on uneven ground.  It works great for our nightly walks when you have to up and down curbs, I have not jogged with it but you can lock the front wheel and jog with it.  I read once that the baby should be over a year before you actually jog with them due to the bouncing.  I would say that is a bit over the top, once they have pretty good head control I would say go for it.

My only compliant about the BOB is the "cargo" area is small and we can't put our diaper bag underneath.  I know BOB wants you to hang it off the back but I found that made it a bit harder to push and steer.  So now I just use a smaller diaper bag when we use the BOB.  I have my "cheaper" smaller stroller for when I am going places like the mall.  The bob handles beautifully  but it is still sort of big when you are trying to shop and go into dressing rooms.

I've heard the 2011 Bob they made the cargo area bigger than previous years, so it might sold this problem. Just a friendly heads up Smile

  • How old does a child have to be before you can put them in and use a jogging stroller to actually "jog"? It depends on your stroller. BOB's and other higher-end strollers have infant seat adapters and you can run with a baby in that as soon as you are up to jogging. Strollers that require your child to sit require that your child have the ability to sit up on their own and have control over their necks.

ETA: Just about every mom runner at Green Lake runs with baby in the infant carrier insert when they are ready to run again. There are countless women who do this. I don't see anything wrong with it if you are running on a smooth surface. In a BOB stroller, the suspension is so great that jogging with a baby in it's carrier would be no different than driving a car with baby in it's carrier. JMO though.

If you have a jogging stroller, which one do you have?  Would you recommend it? I have the Baby Trend Expedition. It isn't the best stroller in the world, but I got it from a Bumpie for $20.00 and it was great while I learned to run. I am going to get a BOB Dualie when I have another baby.

If you have any other advice comments on them I'd greatly appreciate it! Go to REI or another sporting goods store and test drive a few strollers. No one can tell you what is best for you, you need to go and try some out. I love the BOB, but it comes with a hefty price tag. You might like any of the other strollers out there. BRU has a lot of them on their floor as well. GL!

  • Thanks so much for all the advice tips!  I might try and save up for the BOB, but I'll go check it out to make sure.
  • We have the BOB too and love it! The manual says you technically aren't supposed to run with it until baby is 6 months. I think I started about 5 months while using the carseat adapater. They've had a lot of sales on BOB's lately. REI does once a year. I am not sure if it's still going on, if you friend baby cheapskate on facebook they post whenever there is a sale.

  • I'm with Nemo, I jogged with K in the infant adaptor a lot sooner than six months!  I stayed on smooth paved trails and didn't offroad.  She was strapped in and that ride was probably way smoother than some of the car trips we've taken :)

And yes, I'm a BOB lover.  It's the only stroller I've owned and in 15+ months, we've never needed another.  Fits in the trunk of my sedan, jogs, walks, and has been great.  I'd probably only get another if I was going to travel somewhere.

  • I don't have anything new to post - just wanted to agree with everyone else and say that I LOVE my BOB - it's so smooth and easy to steer.  I'm not a jogger, but I can actually walk dogs and steer the stroller with a baby in it...   This was impossible with our other stroller.
