Jackson feel tonight and smacked his upper gum line/teeth on his footboard. By the time I got home he was a mess. So I gave him some tylenol and calmed him down. He eventually let me give him his gummy vitamin and he did chew it ok. He also let me gently brush his teeth. They don't look out of place and they don't wiggle. His gums are really swollen and bruised. He also has some blood just hanging out on his teeth line. I couldn't get it to stop. UGH. Any advice, encouraging words? I am calling the dentist in the am. Send a little prayer out he didn't break anything or he won't lose his front teeth. What a long freaking night.
(Worst phone call ever with him screaming in the back ground, and Brian telling me to drop everything and get home)
Re: Falling on teeth/gums. :/
I've known several kids that have had injuries like that and they all had different results. One kid I know hit his teeth on the side of the bathtub. I think he lost both of his teeth but when his permenant teeth came in they were fine. Emma was hit in the mouth with a tennis raquet but her tooth was alreay a little loose. It did come out earlier than it probably would have though. She doesn't have any permenant damager to her teeth either. But I do know one kid that it did not knock his teeth out but after they naturally fell out his perm teeth came in w/ one of them discolored.
All that to say, I think it's just a wait and see thing at this point. I hope he is okay! Poor guy, keep us posted!
Poor guy!! I would definitely call his dentist and just let them take a took at it.
A few months ago, Caroline ran off a platform/stage (like 6 inches off the ground) and landed flat on her face. She had similar injuries to Jackson - blood at the gumline, swollen, etc. The day it happened she was pitiful and sore, but the next day she was fine and ate corn on the cob. Her tooth that she hit turned a little gray, then a few weeks later turned back to it's normal color. If I look really really closely I can tell that it's a little discolored from her other front tooth, but only I've been able to notice. From what I understand, she "bruised" the tooth, and just like when you bruise your skin, it will turn color for a while, but can go back to normal. I have also heard of the tooth staying gray until they lose it and a perm tooth comes in. Sometimes they may lose the tooth early, etc.
Anyway, like Laurann said, at this point you just have to wait and see. And let him eat plenty of popsicles :-)
