Babies on the Brain

First Ikea trip today.

I was not very impressed.  They had really neat stuff.  IMO the furniture was pretty cool to look at.  When I felt a dresser, I thought the dang thing was going to fall apart.  There were a few odd and ends on the lower level I thought I might be able to use in the kitchen.  Overall I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Not that you asked my review or opinion.

Edit:  How is their fabric by the yard?  I saw a cute pattern I was thinking of getting to recover a seat at my moms.

  • I love ikea. I'd say their furniture is hit or miss though, in terms of quality. But other things I would say are cheaper and good quality like the wall shelve we picked up a few weeks ago.

  • I really like their upholstery fabric.

I adore Ikea but I agree with pp, it is hit or miss on a lot of stuff. Some of the furniture lines are wonderful, some not so much.

This is true. It is hit or miss. We have two bookshelves, a night table and a dresser from there, but it took us a while to find the right ones. We have the Bobby (or Brody or Bailey or whatever the style bookcases that start with a B) bookcases with the extender on the top and they're amazing for the price. They also weren't that much of a pain to put together.

  • I agree with pp's. The furniture is definitely hit or miss. We have a chair from there that's lasted years, but the desk I bought last year is already in the trash.

I do like their fabric and their kitchen stuff. They have these plastic drinking cups that they sell in packs of 4 (I think) that have lasted 10 years for us, since the Ikea by us opened. They are the best cups to wash in the dishwasher and are really sturdy plastic.

Oh, I also have their bygel kitchen rods up in my stamp/craft space to hold punches.
