Spitting up question...... Help please!

Hey ladies so I'm waiting on the doctor to call back now but in the mean time I figured I'd ask you guys! my LO is FF I was unable to BF and he is on enfamil newborn and hasnt had a problem with it until now, out of no where last night he started spitting up after every feeding. & when he isnt spitting up he is making a 'dry heaving' kind of face. Or like he has a nasty taste in his mouth. Not to mention crying and simply seems like he is uncomfortable. anyone know why he would start this out of no where?

TIA !

Re: Spitting up question...... Help please!

  • describe the spitting up.  is it like a dribble or a forceful tons of formula coming back up?  how often are you stopping to burp him too?  you might try a sensitive formula and see if that helps.  it takes a few days for them to get used to the new stuff, and therefore a few days to show any signs of that formula not sitting well with their tummies.  with both my boys, we've ended up on soy because of the massive amounts of spitup and general discomfort.

  • it comes out like a dribble at times but others alot comes out but it isnt like a perjectile vomit or anything, it just runs out of his mouth. I stop him at least twice but mostly three times to burp because the first fews nights home he seemed gassy. I also have the enfamil gentlease, I'm thinking of trying that out.

  • yeah, try the genetlease and see how he does.  and you might also try giving him some mylicon drops (i think they are currently recalled, but target has their brand and it works well too) to help with the gas.  and that's good that it's not projectile.  let me tell you, THAT is no fun.  But at least you know it's most likely not a lactose issue.

  • I wasn't able to BF either and the hospital started us on Enfamil newborn. LO HATED it. It hurt her tummy so bad and gave her bad gas/reflux. We switched to Similac Sensitive as well as giving her Mylicon before every feeding and using Dr. Brown bottles (pedi recommended). Something has drastically helped. She still spits up (that's what baby's do) but not nearly as much and she generally looks so much better. Not as much crying as before, etc. Definitely make sure you keep your LO upright at least 10-15 minutes after feeding so nothing is jostled back up. That could help also.
