5 week ultrasound- 8 weeks pregnant

I went to the doctor today because I started bleeding.  I was 8 weeks yesterday.  The found an egg sack with no "pole."  They said it looked like it was 5 weeks.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I'm confused, sad, and trying to be hopeful.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. Is it possible you O'd later than you think and you could be only 5 weeks along?

  • Bleeding + measuring 3 weeks behind does not sound very promising, I'm sorry to say.  I hope the previous poster is right and it could be a mix-up with dates (I know that my due date got moved back because I measured 5 days behind, but I know from charting that I usually ovulate around day 17 in my cycle whereas the average is day 12-14, so my OB was not concerned).  Hang in there and I hope you get the answers you need.

  • I'm sorry to hear this.  As PP have said - hopefully you just O'ed later than you think.
  • What a disheartening appointment. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Did they take bloodwork to mesasure your HcG levels? Please keep us updated!

  • my hcg level was 4,932.  The nurse said that was wonderful.  What on earth does great labs+ bleeding mean?

  • I went in thinking I was 8 wks and when they did the ultrasound I was 6 weeks 3 days. So lets hope you ovulated late like I did! Good luck!

  • This happened to me with my very first pregnancy.  It ended up being a blighted ovum.  I hope that's not the case for you but if it is - know that I got pregnant 5 months after that and had my DS and I'm pregnant again now.  It's very common.  Not fair but common.  Keep us posted - I'll be thinking of you.  (((hugs)))

  • It could be a ovulation timing issue or a missed m/c.  I'm so sorry you have to go through the stress of the whole waiting game.  It's certainly no fun at all.  {{hugs}}
