Serving a Crazy STBXH - Experiences?

Earlier this week I filed my petition for divorce.  My STBXH will be served either tomorrow or Saturday.  I really don't know how he will respond to being served.

There is currently a protective order in place for me and my children and, as such, I listed that he will have no visitation in my papers.  When he sees this, he may flip out.  Well, he'll probably flip out regardless because apparently our split has made him see the light (yeah right) and doesn't want to divorce, only separate.  Well, that's not going to happen.  My STBXH was also abusive (verbally, emotionally, physically) and has an alcohol problem. 

 Now, I'm debating whether to stay with my parents over the weekend just in case he has a crazy moment. For those of you who had ex-husbands like mine, can you tell me how they responded to being served?  Am I over-thinking how he may respond?

    My ex h received the divorce papers by certified mail but he went crazy. Not crazy flipping out on me but crazy. He walked out of his job, demanded money from me, said people were following him. It was so strange. He wasn't physically abusive but he was emotionally. 

    I stayed with my sister the first couple of days after he he got them and changed the locks at the house. I don't think you can be too cautious.

    My XH was also abusive to me and DD and I also have OOP in place for me and DD.  When my XH found out I filed (he found out from the supervising agency but he hadn't yet been served because we were having trouble finding him) he flipped out. I ended up having to move so that he wouldn't know where I live.  

     I think it would be very wise for you to go stay with your parents when he gets served.  The fact is that you're in the most danger when trying to leave an abusive relationship and having him served is probably going to set him off. Good luck and keep us posted.

    Yep, I'd go stay elsewhere.  My crazy EX flipped out and it was not pretty.  He did ransack and steal a bunch of my stuff out of my apartment while I was gone too..so I'd recomend someone changing the locks if you can.

    STBXH was served on Saturday morning.  I spent the weekend away as a precaution, and I'm relieved to say, it was an uneventful weekend.  Whew.
