Does it matter when LO is born?

So I am due 9/26 and my doc said yesterday they will only let me go one week past my due date which brings me to 10/3. Now, I want a healthy baby by all means and I'm grateful to have made it this far, but the possibility that LO could born in the first few days of October has me thrown off a bit. I guess I have had the expectation this whole pregnancy of having a September baby, that now I'm kind of not sure what to feel about an October one. Embarrassed What does everyone else think? Maybe I am just a little freaked out because no matter what, in two weeks or less LO will be here!

  • No one enjoys going past their due date... However it's always a possibility from the second you get pregnant.. Full term is between 37-42 weeks.. A 5 week window. I would just assume you will go late and then be pleasantly surprised if you go earlier.

  • I'm due the 28th but my OB is letting me be induced at 39 weeks if I want, I really havent decided yet. Honestly I would love this baby to come whenever she wants but its getting harder and harder to being this pregnant

I second this. Going past your due date is very common so I would just expect it. There isn't much difference between the last week in September and the first week in October and you will love your baby no matter what month she gets here!

  • September. . . October. . . it's all the same, just as long as my LO is here and healthy.

  • I am also due the 26th, but I was induced a week late with DD, so I knew October was a possibility. My doctor said she would think about inducing the 28th, because of baby's size, and that she is on call that day.

  • October is a great month!!  My siblings and I are all October babies and I got married that month too.  I, unfortunately, won't hold out until October because they'd induce, at the very latest, Sept 29.  Good luck!

This.  TBH, average gestation for a FTM is 41 weeks and 1 day.  So it really shocks me and somewhat irritates me that doctors will induce before that date despite the risks.   Your body and your baby know what they are doing.  I say let nature run its course.

  • With DS I was due June 26 and I went overdue.  My OB induced on July 2.  I always knew it was possible that I could have a July baby, but it still was mentally hard to go into July. I guess it just really pointed out the fact that I was overdue, uncomfortable, and just ready to have the baby. Honestly I could care less 2 years later.  I don't even really associate the month of June with my son anymore.  He is my July baby and in the end I was glad I gave him the opportunity to come out on his own before going to the induction.  My induction went well, but I still would not have had it sooner than I did.

  • DS1 was due 9/26 and was born 10/10.  It was a long haul, but he just wasn't ready to come out.  I was induced for two days and ended with a section.  Who knows how long it would have taken him to come on his own.  But at 42 weeks exactly he needed to come out.

There's not much difference other than maybe liking a sapphire more than an opal.

This baby is actually due 9/26 as well, but I'm having a RCS.  So he's going to be a Sept. baby.

  • I can understand where you are coming from. I was seriously crossing my legs, praying my son wouldn't be born early in late-August, more for personal selfish reasons of dates I would like him to be born on in September (which have come an passed as well..). Now, I feel like he considers himself an October baby. haha

That being said, babies will come when they come. Either way your LO has the PERFECT time of year (in my opinion) for a birthday, whether it be Sept or Oct. I wouldn't rush anything with induction unless either of you are in need of it, and just let your LO make their choice.

  • Just because of my personal month preferences, I am hoping LO stays put til October (it's my favorite month).  I kind of assume he will wait til then since he is due the 29th and I expect to go late, being that he is my first baby.  Also, my brother and sister and cousin and a ton of other people I know are September babies, so it would be nice to have him not be one.  But ultimately, if he is healthy and happy, I could care less when he chooses to show himself.  :)

  • i'm due somewhere between the 23rd and the 28th based on lmp and ultrasounds and i was just given the same induction date. i was pretty bummed when i found out. i think the reason it seems so far away is because its a whole different month. we still have less than 20 days to go no matter what! Big Smile
