Diaper Parties - Yes or No :)

Hi girls, I am in a sort of different situation, but I am hoping someone can relate on some level and give me some opinions.

My husband is Navy and we are stationed literally on the other side of the country. We are from Florida and got stationed in Hawaii so going home is really not an option since tickets are 1300 per person. We also only moved here a year ago, dont know mnay people and are fairly young, therefore most of the girls I do know here are just married and dont have children or anything so I dont exspect any of them to throw me a shower, nor as anyone offered except to ask, If I am having a shower. Which I know how everyone says not to throw my own shower. So my husband came home with this idea. He wants to have a diaper party. Some guy on his boat was telling him about when he did one and I think the whole guys get together to drink beer is the part that caught his attention lol. I truly know nothing about them, So I was hoping someone could give me some insight on these, or there any rules to them or anything ?

Re: Diaper Parties - Yes or No :)

  • Pretty much its an excuse for the daddy to be and his buddies to get together and drink a few beers LoL The only requirement is that each guy who attends has to bring a package of diapers or wipes. These are much more casual too. My hubby is having one when we go home for Thanksgiving. Its a great way to get a good supply of diapers going :)

I've never heard of this before, but based off of this explanation it sounds like an awesome idea! (Sorry, just had to butt in and say that!)

  • MH went to one a couple of years ago.  As the hosts, y'all would be responsible for supplying beer & food.  Everyone who attends must bring diapers or wipes.  At the one DH went to they watched football, played video games & then went to a strip club.

  • Thank you Ladies :) I guess that implies I would have to get out of the house for a while huh ? Lol I could use it as pampering mani/pedi/ shopping time :) I dont think I am down for the strip club part, actually I know I'm not lol :) But I know he feels a little left out of this whole pregnency thing since I am actually carrying our Son, so it could be a good thing :)
  • Why not! Some of my DHs friends are asking for it to be a co'ed shower, lol. But i'm leaving it up to the hosts!

  • I am of the camp that you shouldn't throw a party for yourself where gifts are expected.  I think it is a little rude.  If one of your DH's friends throw the party that is one thing, but to throw it yourself looks kinda tacky IMO.

People also call them Pamper Parties and Diaper and Beer Showers LoL.... We are having my husbands at a local pizza place that has a huge selection of beers from all over. I am buying 5 large pizzas and some beers from the place to have in a tub of ice ready to go when the guys arrive. My friend had one for her husband and said they still havent had to buy diapers and her baby boy is 9 months old now! Crossing my fingers we have as good of a turn out.

  • I say go for it! My DH's cousin had one when his wife was pregnant with their first and it sounded like a pretty good time. To me it sounded more fun than their actual shower. DH is wanting to have one with his buddies, but he's still on the fence. I told he should go ahead and do it because once LO gets here, he won't have as many chances to just hang out with the guys.

The strip club thing isn't a normal part of the celebration. The father-to-be was in the middle of a divorce & his gay BFF had never been to a strip club before, so the BFF had rented a limo & paid for everyone to get into the strip club.  It was partially to "celebrate" the baby & the divorce, but partially because the BFF was curious about women & strip clubs.

    This 100%.
My DH bought a Keg and we got so many diapers it was ridiculous. (Like 6 months worth.. not kidding!)
They drank and played corn hole and stuff.

  • It is just what you stated, bring beer and diapers and drink with the guys.  I had never heard of this either, but our best man who now lives in Arizona  said it is all the rage there!
  • my boyfriend thinks its a fab idea...im not so sure though seeing as we are having a coed shower....thoughts?

  • My DH is dying to have a Hooters Diaper Party.  (You can see details of it on their website).  I really doubt any of his friends are going to offer to throw one for him though since we are the first in the group to have a child and they aren't really experienced in this kind of thing.

  • Oh I feel so much better! I thought he was a little wacky with the idea but I guess they are more commen then I thought. Which poses this question should it be were we just provide beer and they can watch sports or something or should we supply food as well ? Anyone have any auggestions or exsperince with this ?

I agree. Maybe one of your DH's buddies can "host" the party for him?

  • They're not big in this area, so I don't really know much about them other than what I've seen here. That being said, they're not really my thing.

But I do see that they are very popular in other areas, so take my opinion with a grain of salt!
