Okay, there's a huge backstory to this vent, but the main point would be when a Dr. says they want to get you right in, how is over a month "right in"?!
When I was in my 3rd trimester with J, I had some strange symptoms, bad itching and my liver enzymes were really high. They diagnosed it as Cholestasis of Pregnancy, got the itching under control and did BPP 2x a week, NST every other day (the risk of stillbirth goes up with the condition). But they weren't really ever positive wth happened, except there was some sort of malfunction/injury between my liver and gallbladder and scans showed my gallbladder having "sludge" in it (yes, that's the term!). After I had J, I was totally fine, all functions normal.
So I've been concerned about my liver enzymes since I got pregnant this time and had b/w done on 8/8 for life insurance. Yep, liver enzymes are elevated. Had b/w done on 8/16 for my OB, yep, the #'s are 16 pts higher than the 8th. The #'s are still lower than my worst set of #'s with J, so that's good, but I'm also not even halfway through the pregnancy like I was when I had those #'s drawn. So my OB says on Tues, to see a GI specialist, have them do a full workup on my liver and see if there is some strange condition that is showing itself in pregnancy. First I have to go see my primary care dr and get a referral though, so that was yesterday. When I heard back from the GI place, my appt is for Oct. 19th. Really? I called them back and asked to be put on their cancellation list. Oh and my OB said to fully expect that this is Cholestasis coming back and that the itching will very likely come back (90% chance of reoccurance). I don't care about the itching, that can be controlled through meds. I care about the risk of stillbirth or any damage to this baby or its liver. Her main concern is if it comes back when I'm in the 20's, or the 30's (weeks).
I know there's nothing I can do about it and stressing isn't going to help, but that's always easier said than done If you made it through all that and followed-thanks for letting me vent!
Re: Vent-Updated!
This this this. A month during pregnancy can bring HUGE changes, moreso than other times. Not the same, but I know a guy DH works with needed to get in to see an oncologist about a spot on his lung and they scheduled him a month out. I would think that would be the kind of thing that is urgent enough to get in right away.
And there's like 8 drs, plus NP in this GI office! Maybe I will call my OB and see if she can get me anywhere.
We haven't come out on FB, and not really for any particular reason. And everyone in "real life" knows about it so I'm kind of shocked no one has said something. We have our anatomy scan in a few weeks so maybe then, lol.
I agree with everyone's suggestion of trying to see if the OB can get you an appt somewhere sooner.
I'm so sorry you are going through this! I'll send some prayers your way that everything works out ok for you.
I'm sorry you are going through that- I'm having the same difficulty with my primary- they wanted to get me "right in" and the appt is in 5 weeks...right around the time I'm supposed to have my c-sec- oh well...
I hope that your levels dont continue to rise or at least they can maintain them through out the pregnancy...
