Anyone watch Up All Night last night?

I was excited for the show, especially since DH has been a SAHD for the past few months, but I was a little disappointed. I just didn't think it was that funny.

I was also watching it while eating dinner and trying to answer some work emails after getting LO down for the second time, so I might not have been totally paying attention.

Re: Anyone watch Up All Night last night?

  • I DVR'd it, but actually completely forgot it was on. Maybe it will be one of those shows that needs a little time to hit it's stride? The commercials are funny, and I feel like it's a good concept for a show.

  • We liked it. I have yet to see a series opening that was fantastic, and this wasn't but we thought it had great potential.
  • Ironically, it was on too late for me.

Ditto! We DVRed to watch tonight.

  • It moves to 8:00 next week, which will be a huge relief.  I didn't think it was great, but will keep watching to see whether it gets better.

  • we thought parts of it were really funny christina applegate and will arnette, but we feel the maya roudolph part could use some work...we are going to give it another chance and thank goodness it will be at 8pm....

to be honest, I don't remember LOVINg the modern family pilot yet that is one of our favorite shows...just took a few episodes to take off:-)

  • I haven't watched it yet (DVRed it), but the commercials looked promising.

  • LOL at it being on too late - I paid for that this morning. DH was out with friends, and I was reveling in alone time.

I agree the pilots are never the best episodes, so I hope it gets better. I'm still going to DVR it.

  • I watched a bit and was not impressed, but I DVR'ed and I want to go back and watch it again.  I am glad that Parenthood is back!

  • I just watched this evening and it seemed like plot exposition (like most show premiers).  I think I'll give it another few episodes before making a decision.

  • Eh.  It felt so rushed and all the jokes felt forced IMO.  I'll give it another episode or two to see if it gets better.
  • I thought it was okay.  Not as funny as I thought it was going to be.  Most of the funny parts were shown in the commercial.  Maybe the next episode will be better.

  • I watched it last night. I liked it. It wasn't the funniest show ever, but I think it has promise. The parts with Will Arnett as the dad were so much like my DH, so that was funny to me.

Ditto. I think it has potential. I thought it was about the first angsty newborn months though. Didn't realize it started three months in.

I was wondering the same thing.

I was wondering the same thing.

    Ha! Totally.

I actually liked it.  For sitcoms, I don't expect to be rolling on the floor the entire episode, so my expectations were sorta low... so I guess it exceeded my (low) expectations.

There were several scenes that hit home for us - the argument they had while in bed about, essentially, who got more sleep and who had to be awake the most that night with the baby.  DH and I have had the "who is worse off" argument in a thousand different ways, but the "who got the least sleep" game is one we play constantly.  Another one is when they're hung over and the husband says "I"ll pay you a million dollars if you go get her" while the baby is screaming.  Not that DH and I are really hung over very much anymore, but after a rough night of any kind, we definitely are like "you go get him, no you go get him, no I got him yesterday" etc.  And not for nothing, but I thought the scenes while they were out all night doing karaoke were funny - just because I like karaoke (though haven't done it in years) and DH thinks I'm a dork for liking it.  It's totally something I did while out partying/pre-kids and made an ass out of myself.  So that made me laugh.

ETA:  one distracting thing is how pregnant Maya Rudolph is in the show, and her character is supposed to be childless.  Though that is one other thing that rang true for me - the lady boss who does not have any kids.  Every woman I've ever worked for has NOT had kids, and while they try to be sympathetic (like Rudolph's character) about kid related things, they really have no idea (like expecting an employee to go to a BBQ at Stevie Nicks' house on a weekend).  Smile

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • DH and I thought it was kinda slow to start.  Halfway through I was impressed enough to tivo it for next week.  I guess we'll see...

Ditto. I watched it last night and thought it was pretty funny. I have definitely done that at the grocery store, where I was just standing there like . . . where is all the stuff I need? I forget what I need and where to get it.

And DH totally related to the "ack! random people are trying to touch my baby" thing.

I think it will improve over the next few episodes (I hope, anyway). I am willing to add this to my lineup.

  • just watched it on DVR and wasn't impressed. The only LOL part for me was the argument in bed and then the husband says "wanna do it?"

I did not realize Maya Rudolph was pregnant actually but I don't ever watch her so I wouldn't know that she looked different.

We will not be DVRing but if I hear it got better, I may give it another chance.

I thought the baby was older than 3 mo too.

I do like it that the parents look their age and are not made up to look younger, I think that's part of the show, they got married, had lots of fun and then had a baby "later," i.e.: mid-late 30s (like many of us)
