I'm a sucky mom

I thought this year I'd be super active in Joshua's school, joined PTA, volunteered to be room mom, but it is nearly impossible with Simon!!! there's a PTA meeting tonight from 6:30-8, smack dab in the middle of dinner/bath/bed time. Not going to make it.

On top of that, Joshua's birthday is exactly a week away and I haven't planned anything. Nothing. Nada. No cake plans, gift plans, party plans. Nothing. I feel so sh!tty right now. It's obviously too late to plan a party, so now I'm thinking we'll take Simon to grandma's and maybe take Joshua out for a day just his own. Mini-golf, go carts, dinner, movie, and ice cream. Does that sound decent or totally awful?? ::breaks down crying::: I suck.

    I think a day with the three of you would be great for him! Did he ask for a party?

    Not exactly, but we've had a big pool party the last 3 years, and I think he has come to expect it. To add to the horror, every night at dinner we do "best, worst, and looking forward to" about our day. For the last 2 months everyday he's been looking forward to his birthday. Crying

    You are totally not a sucky mom.  A sucky mom would not even realize she was sucky!  I think this sounds like a really great day and I bet Joshua will feel really special that he gets all your attention for a whole day.

    First, I read the title of this. Then, I read who posted it. Then, I said out loud "I highly doubt that". After reading it, I am correct. You're not a sucky mom. A sucky mom wouldn't have even remembered or cared about his birthday. A great mom cares enough to write a post like this.

    I'm sure he'd love a day just the three of you. Spoil him, let him do the things he's never allowed to do (ice cream for breakfast, and uh, other things I don't about yet b/c DD's not old enough).

    LOL! This made me smile. Thank you! You're so sweet. In the past I've always done themed cake and cakepops and cute invites and friends over.... I just feel like I'm letting him down. Especially since I'm sure we'll make a big deal over Simon's birthday this year. It's hard hot playing favorites. Which I'm not, but I don't want him to look back and feel like that.

    Why not just talk to him and see if he'd like to have a day just the 3 of you that's all about him? He's old enough where he'll speak his mind. And if he's not ok with it, then you can throw a party in 3 weeks...it's not too late after his birthday. And that's enough time for invites, if you get crackin' tomorrow.

    Thanks! Finally got him to stand still long enough. He totally dug the go-cart idea, and I even got him to agree that just going to the lego store to pick out a new set was acceptable for gifts! Sweet! I'm feeling much better now. :)

    You are most definitely not a sucky mom! You care enough that you're legitimately upset about this and that makes you an amazing mom. I'm glad Joshua is on board with having a day with you and DH!  I think he'll really enjoy having you two all to himself for an entire day.
