Burp Question

So baby George is an awesome baby, eats and sleeps alot but he has a little trouble with burping, he will burp after he eats but usually only once and with a lot of effort.  He sleeps all day for the most part and then gets real gassy right before bedtime and has been up the past two nights in and out of crying and sleeping because of it.  He has plenty of BM's and wet diapers throughout the day so I know he isn't constipated he's just gassy from the lack of burping.  I have given him Colic Calm to ease his belly and it isn't working either.  Any suggestions on how to get him to burp more throughout the day so we don't have this issue around bedtime?  TIA.

Re: Burp Question

  • Greta has trouble burping also, it seems like it just doesn't want to come out! When I nurse, I burp when I switch sides and after. I don't continue feeding until she burps. I put her on my shoulder, or hold her in a sitting position and pat her back. Sometimes it takes a long time, but I make sure she burps. If I give her a bottle, I stop and burp her every ounce. Have you tried Mylicon? We have been using it before every feeding, and she burps much more easily.

  • Oh, I want to add something! I read in Dr. Sears baby book, that when you burp them in the sitting position, use the wrist/palm area of your hand holding the baby and put pressure on the belly. Don't push, just pressure. This has helped us a lot also!

  • My LC suggested to pick up LO under her armpits and hold her up for a moment to let her body stretch and release any air bubbles. It works wonders for me!

This!  I notice that when I change LO's position to help him burp (usually from sitting on my lap to up on my shoulder) that the act of lifting him up is often what gets a burp moving.
