Colorado Babies

FL baby coming to CO

DH and I are from Denver and we moved to Tampa 3 years ago. We have a 3 month old and are planning on moving back to either Denver or Colorado Springs (work locattion) by Christmas. DS and I visited a couple of weeks ago and poor guy was so miserable. Maybe from the altitude change, lack of humidity, change of environment, etc. My question to you CO mommies is if there are any "must-have" items that you have to deal with cold temps and dry air. I was thinking at least a humidifier, but any other suggestions? TIA!

Re: FL baby coming to CO

  • Hey!  Congrats on moving back to Colorado!  I am not a mommy yet (due in May!) but I am a full time nanny to an awesome one year old in Colorado Springs.  The dryness out here really bothers him.  The humidifier in his room is a must, as is Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion.  It makes SUCH a difference.  He gets baby eczema out here, but it goes away when we visit Florida, so just watch out for that!

I don't think that we do anything different than just bundling him up in the cold.  Sweaters and blankets, etc.  When he was a baby we would use the insert in the car seat that was extra warm and zipped up around him.

    Good luck!

  • Hi there and welcome back (soon!)! I think you've covered it really, other than the humidifier I haven't done anything differently than I would in any other colder weather type situation. I do keep a baby blanket in the car for the colder mornings but other than that, you sound pretty set!

  • The humidifier is a must, even for DH and I alone it's essential.(plus it helps to keep the static shocks away) Smile  I lotion our four month old every night in our bedtime routine.  Not sure it's absolutely necessary, but I love the massage time plus it has kept any dry skin at bay.  We also have a car seat cover which is helpful on those especially cold days.  Warm hats are a must, it's so windy sometimes!  Layers (for clothes) are always good since it can be cold outside but super heated when you go inside.  I like the keeping an extra blanket in your car suggestion!  Make sure you stay hydrated if you bf & if you ff I'm sure it's a bit easier to keep tabs on that to help lo stay hydrated. Smile Hydration helps with the altitude acclimation too.
