Jolivette 0.35MG BC & Breastfeeding....

I promised my SIL that I would posting this here for her to see if anyone that for has Bf'd has been on this BCP.

My niece is 2.5 months old and my SIL is Bf'ing her. She has had a big decrease in her milk supply and is thinking this might be the cause.

Anyone have any feedback on it? Or any suggestions for another BCP that is more Bf'ing friendly?

  • I know that my friend was on a BF safe BCP and did not have a problem at all with her supply.  I would suggest she eats oatmeal every morning, drinks mothers milk tea and if she wants she can take a natural supplement lactate support (that has fenugreek and such in it) to help boost her supply.  Also make sure she is eating enough calories and drinking plenty of water.  I will ask which one she took.

  • she is on the same exact pill and like i said no issues, she is a cow  lol  maybe your sil is having issues unrelated to the pill  could she be pregnant? i would try the other natural rememdies to fix it first  could be the baby is adjusting her supply need and maybe she is not able to produce as much to feed her  she can try power pumping  the more you pump, the more you make  granted baby nursing is better than the pump  good luck to her

  • I did this and for a while took Jolivette and the other half of the time I took Nora-Be.  Personally I liked the Nora Be a lot better because I did notice the difference in the supply.  But just like previous post, lots of water, oatmeal, mother's milk tea always help!  Also although not the best for weight control but it did help my supply, malt with condensed milk helped as well.

mmm....will have to remember that.  also lactation cookies w/brewers yeast help too and they taste pretty yummy!

  • I took Jolivette from about 4 weeks post partum until I weaned Emma when she was 12.5 months old (at which point I switched to Beyaz). I never noticed supply issues when I started the pill...still had enough milk to exclusively breastfeed her until she was 5.5 months old. I had to start supplementing with formula at that point but I think that had more to do with going back to work and not being good at pumping than anything having to do with the pill.

  • Unfortunately any birth control pills can affect supply, even those that are "mini pill" or progesterone only.  Hormones react differently in different people.  So while many women can take the mini pill and maintain their supply, some will not be able to do so.

If she just went back to work, that could be affecting her supply as well.

ditto the above suggestions, including power pumping once a week.

I used to think this was an old Cuban myth, but's actually true. Malta really does help your supply because of the barley and hops in it.   The condesed milk doesn't do anything for your supply, but it sure tastes yummy!
