TTC after 35

I am going to try acupunture..

My good friend who has been TTC for almost a year (many miscarriages) just started seeing one 2 weeks ago.  Just yesterday she told me she felt something happening in her body during the treatments and she felt really positive about this month.  She is only 10 dpo and today she took a HPT and got a good dark line.  Of course she still has to wait and see if this one will stick but she spoke so highly about the treatments she has been getting that I am willing to give it a shot.  If anything maybe it will help with my stress.  :)  Anyone have any pros/cons to share about their acupuncture experiences?

Re: I am going to try acupunture..

  • Do it! You will not be sorry. Acupuncture makes me a better person, has reduced my PMS symptoms, and taken away a lot of my back pain. Just make sure to see one who knows about fertility issues.  And be ready to take some very gentle needles and drink some very herbaceous teas. I am so relaxed after that 2 hours - it is amazing to me. Still not pregnant (obviously) but if I do get pregnant, I plan to see her through the entire pregnancy.

    It's expensive but worth it!

This! I went to an acupunturist that didn't seem to know anything about infertilty. I chose her because she charged less than others and it was a big waste of time/money for me. I don't know if it I would have had a different outcome with someone else of course but it was annoying trying to explain my infertility treatments to her.

  • I think it may have played a role in my success this past month.   It can't hurt to try, right?

  • I've only been going for about a month-but I find it relaxing and my belly feels "full" afterward.  I go to a chiropractic school that has a Dr on staff that specializes in infertility.  She is in charge of my treatment plan-the students do the accupuncture that she prescribes.  They only charge $25 per session, which is the only reason we can afford it.  Hope that I'll see some real positives for my next IVF cycle.

TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. New RE 9/2011. IVF 2.2 completed using HGH,EPP,DHEA, Q-10 and accupuncture. Transferred one 8-cell, grade one embryo on 10/19. BFP 10/31/11 Chemical pregancy on 11/2/11. • I just started and have had two sessions so far.  The acupuncturist is also giving me herbs but since I'll be on Clomid my next cycle we agreed I should wait until that's done to take them.  I think it's relatively relaxing, though my guy has a pretty utilitarian set-up -- he's affiliated with a nearby hospital and works out of a suite of doctors' offices -- so it's not like it's a nice New-Agey treatment room (though he does offer to put Chinese music on a small boom box if I'd like -- that's the main spa amenity, LOL).  I'm going for about an hour 2x per week.  We'll see!
  • I just started seeing one this week that specializes in infertility.  My internet research showed a few in Pgh, but this one was closest to my house, and her prices are very reasonable.  She seems to think she can increase my chances with my IUI.  I went for my first appointment on Monday.  I go back tomorrow, Friday after my IUI, then again on Saturday.  It was definitely relaxing (I kept falling asleep and waking myself up snoring!).  I figure it can't hurt, right?

Yes, herbaceous teas indeed! My husband actually complains that they have given me too much lovely fertile CM around O!

I would not do just the acu, I really think the herbs do quite a bit on their own right, though as far as I know, they have yet to work on me.

Getting a fertility specialist is quite important though. Mine is surely quite busy-- it is hard to get an appointment much of the time.

  • Thanks all for the posts.  The person I am seeing does specialize in IF, so I am really excited to see what she has to say and wants to do.  It is kind of expensive.. 1st visit is going to be $80 (and that was with a $20 discount for being a referral) but I have been told there are multi visit packages available and I am hoping that will help a little with cost.  I will report back after my visit tomorrow night.  :)

You all have inspired me to start accupuncture too.  I found a place 2 blocks from my house that looks like it does fertility accupuncture.  I am going to suck up my fear of needles and do it.

  • I've been doing accupuncture for about a month now, for a variety of issues.  So far, I really like it.  If nothing else fertility related, I think its helping with stress relief, and that sure can't hurt.
