Cloth Diapering

Blowouts - diapers too small?

Hi, ladies.  I don't generally post here, but we do CD through a service.  I think they are called pre-folds, and then the Thirsties diaper covers.

My question is, I think the prefolds are getting too small for my 13-mo daughter who is currently 22-ish pounds.  No problem with the covers.  She has had a blowout almost every day at the sitter.  So I emailed the service, and she said the next size up is for 30 lbs!  Her suggestion was to use a second diaper as an insert to absorb the wetness.  I'm thinking if the child has 2 diapers on (even if the insert was a smaller size), her butt will be too big to fit into her clothes!!

Anyone dealt with this?  I really want to stick with CD, but my husband & the sitter would be thrilled to switch to disposables.  I'm thinking we might have to if we can't resolve this issue...

  • Are these blowouts or leaks?

  • My sitter is calling them blowouts, but when I get the used diapers home, I think they are getting over-saturated to the point where it is either leaking or soaking through the cover somehow?
  • If the next size up is too big you can fold down the front before snappi-ing.

  • Thanks ladies, I sent a message to try to get enough of the larger size to get us through the weekend & try it out.

If it's this, she needs to change them more frequently.

I agree, if it's that they're completely soaked then I doubt a bigger size is going to do anything.  She either needs to change more often or double up to increase the absorbancy.  You could try buying some hemp doublers to lay in the prefolds to make them more absorbant.
