C-sections

Probably no VBAC...

I went for my 6wk PP appt yesterday and everything went well. However, we did talk about how I would deliver my next child if I decide to have one. The Dr. said that she believes the shape of my pelvis is problematic and that unless I go into spontaneous labor (this time my water broke, but no active labor) I will probably have to have another C-Section.

I can't decide if I'm happy or sad about this...one one hand, I had an 18 hr labor followed by a c-section, so if it's going to happen I guess I would rather be able to just have the c-section, but on the other, I am a little sad I will not be able to experience vaginal birth.

I am not really looking for anything, just venting...

Re: Probably no VBAC...

  • I get asked all the time if I will try for a vaginal birth if we have another baby.  Just try to focus on the idea that however you give birth you are taking home a healthy baby.  When you are old and holding your grandchildren you won't care how you gave birth just that you did.

  • I know how you feel and went through many of the same emotions you're going through and you will go through. However I will tell you when you do get pregnant again you may change your mind one way or the other, personally right after my c-section I said no way, no how was I ever going to try to labor again. However in the months since becoming pregnant there is this different desire within me and I don't know where the longing to try for a VBAC came from. You will know when you get pregnant again what is right for you, right now you just need to heel from your c-section both physically and emotionally before worrying about your next birth! GL and congrats on your new LO!

  • I totally understand how you are feeling.  I was in labor for 14 hours and only dialated to 4 cm.  LO never dropped so we had to do a c-section.  I really want to be able to deliver vaginally but don't want to have to experience the disappointment again.

  • I wanted a VBAC after my first c-section was an emergency and I was under general anesthesia with my dh left waiting in the hall.  My labors have always been really quick and easy but come 9/10cm. my kids' heart rates start dipping too low and all you know what breaks loose.  I am sad I didn't get my VBAC but am happy my dh was in the OR with us when ds was born.  I also had a tear (not quite a rupture) in my "heart shaped" uterus so come baby #3 it's RCS for me.

  • I was told the same thing, regardless of the fact that my births will be too close together. Even if I go into labor on my own I have to get to the hospital asap for a c-section. I guess that's largely because the births are so close together, but she said she would not want to risk a vaginal birth regardless.
