1st Trimester

Totally Lost Appetite

So...I have totally lost my appetite. I am not really sick, not much anyway. But I have to force myself to eat. I used to have a great appetite and could snack all day. Now I have a list of foods I am trying to make sure I consume regularly and I just can't do it! I can barely eat my 3 meals a day, let alone do the 5 or 6 small meals. I am hoping this goes away in 2nd tri. It is just unbeliveable to me because i have always enjoyed food. Anyone found a way to manage this?

Re: Totally Lost Appetite

  • I have the same problem.  I don't have a solution, I have to force myself to eat. It's gotten so bad that my DH has to decide what's for dinner or I would probably never make up my mind.

  • I'm the same way. I get bouts of nausea, but even without the nausea I have just completely lost my appetite and desire for food. I have found though, that when all else fails, I can always get down peanut butter crackers. The plainer the food, the more likely I am to tolerate it... not sure if that works for everyone, but it has worked for me.

  • I went through this when I was pg with DD. Not only did I have no appetite, but I also had a major aversion to food in general. I lost about 20lbs in the first trimester (which was okay, according to Dr, because I had some extra on me anyway) and was feeling this way until about 20wks.

  • Good luck ladies! I've been dealing with this since 6 wks and I will be 13 wks tomorrow. I am so praying it don't last the whole 9 months! This is even with zofran :(

  • I feel the same way and the frustrating part is that I feel WAY more nauseous with an empty stomach but the thought of eating almost anything is revolting.   I have found I can force myself to eat really bland, slightly salty things (like wheat thins) and exercising has helped -- a few hours after a run I really am hungry.

  • I am now 9 weeks and I've been feeling this way since week 7.  Every thing that I've read and any advice I've gotten has been eat what you feel like eating.  I make sure that I do have snacks during the day, mostly crackers or Cheerios, because I seem to feel worse on an empty stomach.  I find that mine is worse during the day and I am able to eat more substantial at dinner.  I can't even COOK and I am an avid lover of cooking.  I just try to stick with more bland meals, and I find that breads, potatoes, and pasta makes me feel the best.  I'm a normally fairly healthy eater, but if Wendy's french fries is the only thing that I can stomach, then that's what I eat.  Hoping that this goes away in the next couple of weeks.  Oh-- and popsicles have been wonderful when I feel this way!
