Anyone switch from OB to Midwife?

I'm not 2u2, but I figure you're in the know....

I don't love my OB practice, they make you see a different OB each visit and it's very impersonal. I loved who delivered my DS but it's a crapshoot on who you get the day you go into labor. Did anyone make the switch and if you did has it been a positive experience?

Thanks ladies

Re: Anyone switch from OB to Midwife?

  • I didn't start with an OB, but both my kids were delivered by midwives.  It was a very positive experience.  My practice has six midwives, and they are very conscientious about making sure you get prenatal appointments with each one so that you get to know them all - since any one of them could be on call when you go into labor.  My only experience with OBs before this was gyno check-ups, and I hated how impersonal the office was.  My mws would spend an hour with me every time if I needed it.  I love them.  If I have another kid I will go back to them.

  • I did with Peyton.  After my placental abruption and the doctor not admitting me then admitting me & keeping me then not wanting to do ultrasounds to check on the placenta, I was pissed.

I knew that I could not possibly ever look at this man again without wanting to strangle him.

I didn't want to leave the practice, so I switched to the midwives.  They were great, the first visit was very thorough and they talked.  I met all 3 midwives & loved them.

With DD2 I was at a 1 dr/1 MW practice, they alternated, but it was too big for the 2 of them & he didn't care about what Peri wanted.  I interviewed at multiple OB offices but only 1 would take me being high risk &  later in my pregnancy.  I didn't 'want' a MW for #2 because of all the issues but LOVED it with #1

  • Yes.  I did when I was pregnant with my first.  The MW practice is actually part of the OB practice, but you see one or the other.  I wasn't happy with the care at my OB practice and really disliked some of the docs there, so I went to the MW side of it and couldn't be happier.  There have been some changes with the MWs since I had my first, but I'm about to deliver #2 with them and looking forward to it.
