My first c-section was unplanned and in America. DH stayed with me until I was rolled into recovery. His "job" was to roll our baby behind me into the recovery room. We live in Switzerland now and the procedure here is after 10 min of the baby being born they bring the baby to another room and DH goes with them. My OB said this is because the surgery room is very cold --- well for me I want DH with me while they sew me up -- it's the longest part of the entire operation and I am already having a complex about having another c-section and quite nervous. When DD was born, watching them do stuff with her and DH bringing her to me back and forth to say hello helped the time pass more quickly as they finished up the operation.
Any advice?
Re: Did DH leave during surgery after baby was born?
My husband went with our daughter into the next room, which was fine with me. The morphine made me shake really bad so the N.A. gave me a sedative and I slept throught through closing. Maybe try to get some rest if your H is sent out?
They showed me DD right after they wrapped her up, and DH got to hold her for a minute. Then the two of them left because they needed to give her something for her blood sugar that was in the 20s. While they were gone, the county went under a tornado warning, so it delayed our reunion. They wheeled me back to my room because they didn't have a separate recovery room for C-sections, and I waited there until the warning was cleared and DH and DD came to meet me. It was probably an hour in between her birth and me seeing them again.
