TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Intro, back from a bump break...if you'll have me

-->

I'll ride the intro wave and come out of lurking/bump break while I'm at it.  A little about me, I'm Steph, 33, DH, 32 and we've been at the lovely TTC process since May 2010.  We got pg after 6 cycles last Oct, but it was suspected to be an ectopic, deemed "non-viable" (hate that term) and treated with a shot of MTX in early Dec.  I joined TTCAL shortly after and was fairly active until earlier this summer when the stress of TTCAL, a new job and my grandfather's illness was just too much and I had to take a bump break.

Well, I've been lurking these last couple weeks and want to jump back in.  However, we are on our 8th cycle TTCAL, approaching a year since I was last pg.,  and I remember how bad it stung to see (while happy for them) newbies come and go so quickly on the reg TTCAL group...so I'm hoping you all will have me here.

Here's where we are with TTC, and my WWYD question:  We met with my RE yesterday to check in and see what he thinks should be next steps for us.  We've had normal SA and a normal HSG test in the spring.  The only thing complicating things for us that we know to day is that I have a copy of a blood clotting disorder, for which I take BA and will do a blood thinner when I get pg again.  So for now we are deemed with "Unexplained IF".  I hate that term, too.  Our options are to either keep trying on our own for another 4 cycles or so and then come back to him...OR, he gave me a RX for Clomid and we'd do an IUI with it.

WWYD - wait it out or go fill the Clomid RX?  I'm torn between waiting with continued anxiety TTC on our own or moving on to the next step.

Thanks for reading this if you got this far and I look forward to getting to know you ladies!   I'd post a yummy, delicious treat for this getting a little long...but I'm bumping from work and they block our pics.  :(

Re: Intro, back from a bump break...if you'll have me

  • Welcome back.  If I were in your shoes, I would probably give it a few (maybe 3) more cycles TTC on my own.  If that didn't work, then I would move onto the Clomid.  I wonder why your RE would jump right into Clomid + IUI.  If all your tests are normal so far, maybe just try the Clomid alone?  IMO any way.

I hope your stay here is short & sweet!

  • Welcome!  Is the HSG the only test your RE ran on you? What about blood tests?

My HSG was perfectly normal, but my blood work showed I have diminished ovarian reserve, so waiting a bit longer isn't a good option for us, b/c my time may be more limited.  Even if I hadn't been dx with DOR I still would have went ahead and moved forward with the IUI-I just didn't see the point in waiting and my RE felt that in 8 cycles we should have gotten pregnant on our own.

If all your blood work is fine, I would still probably go ahead and move foward with the clomid and IUI...unless you feel like you really need to give it a few more cycles to put your mind at rest that you gave it your best shot.  And unfortunately, moving foward with the IUI isn't going to get rid of the TTC anxiety!

Your RE is probably suggesting both and not just the clomid b/c together they have the best chance of succeeding, and if you are going to go through all monitoring for clomid you might as well have the IUI which isn't that expensive and a really simple procedure.

  • Welcome!  Is the HSG the only test your RE ran on you? What about blood tests?

    Manda -

Yes, the HSG is the only test they've r so far.  I don't know why they haven't done the blood tests along with it...I may call and ask.  My Dr. thinks we should wait and that it will happen once we reduce some stress (HA!), but I am torn between waiting and still nothing happening and then I'm only that much further down this road.

I also don't know why we go directly to the IUI with Clomid too.  I'm going to talk to a friend of mine who also goes to this practice.  I'm not sure if this is their normal course of action or not.

  • Welcome. I would probably take the clomid, and since your DH's SA was normal, I'd ask about doing a trigger injection with timed intercourse. I don't think I would go straight to IUI. That said, if your insurance covers IUI, I might be more inclined to go that route.  GL with your decision!

Good. I'm worried all the time and feeling sick, but hopeful this will stick. We finally went to an RE who put me on synthroid and kept the progesterone. I hope that does the trick. I was going to text you to see how you were doing, but then I thought that I'd seem stalkerish. . .

Not stalkerish at all! :). Eventhough I was on a break I'd check in on you girls to see how everyone was doing. I'm happy that almost all of the Hope girls made the move to Pgal and I hope to join you all soon! I think we are going to start getting a little more aggressive and go with the IUI with clomid next cycle, if timing works on our side. Stay put over there and keep me posted how you are doing! When's your next appt?

Wow. I just saw this.. sorry.

I'm not really sure what I thought of the book! I did like the part with all of the vitamins though. It really put some of the vitamins that I was thinking of taking into a new perspective. I have recently picked up CoQ10 because of it.

The flooding was bad here. It didn't affect me personally, but people just a few blocks away were not so lucky. As was a school I taught in, and a lot of friends. It's going to be a long time before we recover from this. A lot of familys are displaced and it looks like they will not be able to go back into their houses for a month!!
