Bug repellant?

Yesterday DS got eaten alive (6 bites at least) while outside at daycare so DCP suggested we give her some bug repellant.  I'd rather not put unnecessary chemicals on him, but I also don't want him to get bitten all the time.

What do you use?

  • My DS is like a little mosquito magnet too, so I had to get something because he was coming back inside with bites all over his body.  My DCP suggested Kids Herbal Armor, I found some at Target.  We have been fairly happy with it, he still get some bites but less than before.

Here is some info about the kids spray:

    Quick Overview

  • Our pedi recommended Badger all natural bug repellent. It's a combo sunscreen too. I got it on Amazon.

  • Long sleeves and long pants is my preferable defense.  That doesn't work in the height of summer so we use low does DEET sprays like Off Skintastic.  The other ones are not nearly as effective.  For babies, I spray into my hands and then rub on their arms and legs avoiding their hands and feet.

Yeah, unfortunately I have to agree. We tried both California Baby and Badger and neither are anywhere near as effective as Off. Our pedi said to go ahead and use it because C is a serious mosquito magnet and his bites are out of control. We've been kind of going in between - the chemical-free stuff on his skin and the Off on his clothes. If we do Off on his skin, he gets a bath soon after coming inside (which I realize is near impossible if your kid is a DCP).

Another thing we haven't really experimented with is Avon's Skin So Soft. I know it's not all natural, but seems a bit better than DEET to me.

  • Our whole family uses All Terrain Herbal Armor as well.  Have used it for a while and I think it's pretty good.
