how much is formula?

We are working on BF but I am curious about how much FF would cost us if eventually we have to go that route.  Can someone give me an estimate of about how much they spend on formula a week?  Also, do you use filtered water or do you buy baby water?

  • We use Similac and they are anywhere from $20.00 - $25.00 a container, depending on where you get them. You can also sign up on the formula websites and they will send you coupons and rebate checks. For the last 3 weeks we have only spent $6.00 each week on formula using checks and coupons. We go through about a container a week. We might need to open a second container on the 6th/7th day, though, because we sometimes waste formula by making a whole bottle when LO only needs a snack.

  • I get 2.12 lb similac tubs at sam's and use a $5 coupon each time, so it's roughly 20-22 bucks every 8-9 since DS eats a lot. We also use filtered water from the fridge.

  • I never buy anything full price, but if I was to, we use Similac and would be $28 a week. But my LO is a big boy ( 15 lbs 12oz at 2 month), so he eats a little more than most babies. I filter the water in a brita filter. I was told by the pediatrician that tap water is fine though. We use the filter since he already had it.

  • We used Sam's Club formula. It is a huge 3lb container, and it lasted us around 3 weeks or so in the beginning (if not longer). I believe it was $20. I don't think we ever spent more than $40/month on formula.

That's the way to go! I just wish Sams had a generic soy formula :-(

  • We use the Earths Best Organic formula. A can is about $32 but they have 20% more free cans for the same price. Then I use the $5 off coupon from their website. I would say we use one can every 3 1/2 weeks

  • When I was paying full price, we went through a $22 can every 6 days. That's from 1 month to now, eating 4 oz every 3ish hours except at night.

  • We use Kirkland which is Costco's generic. After researching I found that it is made by Similac. We get a 36oz tub which lasts 2.5 weeks or so and it costs under 17.00!

  • and we use store brand drinking water. We have a well so I buy it anyways for drinking. I reuse the gallon jugs and refill for .30 at the grocery store instead of buying a new gallon for .85

  • I use Enfamil to supplement. Its $25 for the container and then $35 for two refills for the container. I use tap water but we have it run through a filter.
  • I use Gerber Good Start Gentle, it runs $20 to $25 depending on where you get it.  I stock up when CVS.com had a 25% of sale and a $20 off $80 coupon, getting a 22 oz can for $13.  I also get formula checks from Gerber, so I have gotten anywhere from $10 to $12 off a can, I bought a can at Wal Mart last week for less than $9.  I watch CVS on line like a hawk!
