Natural Birth friendly OB in Rockford?

We just moved to the Rockford area and since we're planning on starting to TTC in a few months, I'm on the hunt for a good OB/GYN to get established with. Any and all recommendations are welcome (including any OBs to avoid).

As much as I'd love a home birth, being 30 minutes away (on a good day) from the closest hospital has me a bit wary, so it'll be the hospital for me.

Re: Natural Birth friendly OB in Rockford?

  • I go to Dr. Cunnignham at Sweedish American, and I love him.  This is my first pregnancy, but he has been my ob for the past 5 years.  Everyone at the office is very nice as well.

  • Thank you!  Bonus that he's a SA doc as that's where I'll be working, so better insurance coverage.
  • We have not talked about my birth plan either, but I want to go natural as well, but he is very open and easy to talk to.  If they give you a nurse pract. as well to see.  Alta Ryan is great!
  • I would love to hear updates as you go along with his care.  We plan to start TTC around the Nov/Dec timeframe and I'd love it if I could have a doc lined up before we even get to that point.
  • I will.  Like I said he had been my ob for a long time.  I am 29 weeks so I will let you know
  •  It's been a while since I've checked in.  How's everything going for you?
  • Sorry just checked this.  I am 39 weeks so just waiting.  Dr. Cunningham has signed off on my birth plan, but I do have some complications that might not make it has natural as I want, but we discuss all the options as they are brought up,so I am still very happy.  I will let you know how everything goes.
  • No worries on the delay... you have a lot going on!  When I'm working my night shifts in the coming weeks, I'll be listening for the music to play saying a baby has been born.  I hope all goes well for you.

The more I talk to people, the more good things I'm hearing about him

  • I would go with him.  He knows my plan to be natural, but one of my things is I ended up with GD.  He says most ob's will induce at 39 weeks which is now,but since I have been diet controlled he will let me go longer to try to progress on my own, which is not looking good.  IF this little guy does not appear by next Thursday I will be induced that day or Friday.  I am ok with it because he is letting me go a couple of extra weeks for a GD patient.
  • I definitely like hearing that... think my mind is made up now. :)  Hopefully I'll be calling in a couple weeks to set up my first appt.  :)
