So I have a bunch of baby clothes ready for LO's arrival... and I decided to start washing them in small doses so as not to get overwhelmed. I have not washed any of the "newborn" size clothes yet, because I am not sure how big/small our LO will be when she is born. So I started with the 0-3month size.
I washed all the 0-3 size clothes today.. and I held up one of the onesies to a newborn onesie.. and I am freaking out because I think I shrunk all of the 0-3 month clothes! Of course I started to cry.. and when DH agreed that they looked smaller.. that didn't help any with my laundry breakdown.
I feel like such an awful parent already.. who messes up the laundry? I have never shrunk anything in the laundry.. but of course now when I take extra care with my first LO's clothes.. I mess it up :-(
Boo. Vent over.
Re: Did I really just do that??
I have some onesies that are Gerber brand and they were 3-6 months. I was going to set them aside for when he is bigger but I started looking and realized that they are super tiny and in fact, smaller than a onesie I have from Gap that is 0-3 months. I mentioned it to a friend who has an 8 month old and she said that Gerber is notorious for that. I am glad I realized that because I would probably not get them out again until he was too big for them.

Here is my general thoughts when it comes to sizing:
Gerber - runs incredibly small!!!
Carter's - I think are pretty true to size
Garanimals (Walmart) - run large in my opinion
Target/Circo - tend to run a little big. Some bigger than others. Someone got DS a "newborn" shirt that didn't fit until he was at least 6 months.
Jumping Beans (Kohl's) - I think these run in the line with Carter's - seem pretty true to size.
Gymboree - though I have never bought anything from here (gifts or hand me downs) - I think they run close to size or a little big
Children's Place - A little big or close to size (these are where the best fitting jeans have been for DS).
I layed my onesies on top of eachother and tried to order them by size that way and then looked at the tags depending on brand some NB onesies were the same size as 3 month onesies from another brand....and I thought womens jean sizes were wacky!

I agree with all of this. Old Navy seems to run small as well.
There is nothing worse than pulling out some cute item you were saving only to find they have already outgrown it. I usually have the next size up stuff unpacked and on hand for smooth transitions, with an empty tub in the closet I can toss things into as they are grown out of.
