"Cry it out" Aka sleep training methods that involve your baby crying. It seems like most people are picturing you shutting your baby in the room and letting them scream for an hour, but there are actually many other methods that are nothing like that and only involve short periods of crying.

Letting your baby cry, unattended for hours on end, while you watch Young and the Restless.
Sleep training (I prefer that term vs. CIO) is a method of teaching your baby to sleep. Often times it involves intervals of letting baby cry followed by periods of you going in to soothe them. The intervals increase in minutes and eventually you have taught your baby to sleep on their own. In a matter of days, if not a week or 2.
If you want to know more, get Ferber or Weissbluth's books. I really believe that most parents need to read up on the subject before considering it as it is not for everyone (so, so obviously, not for everyone. lol)
It is something that bad moms do. People who shouldn't have had children in the first place.
When a baby stops crying when they are alone, it just means they have lost hope. Might as well start saving for bail money, a good lawyer and/or therapy instead of college.

I'm pretty sure Dr. Sears says if you sleep train and don't co-sleep through kindergarten, your child will join a cult.
Also, think of the study on the baby monkeys. They just want to cuddle!!

Oh god! My aunt hasn't had sex in 8 years because there is a little boy
who has been sleeping in between her and her husband since birth. I love a good snuggle, but there comes a time when baby needs his/her own bed. Healthy Marriage = Happy Family.
