I have been starting to look at jackets for DD this fall/winter. Some are lighter and some are heavier. Do you get a lighter jacket for all and then a heavier one for winter? Being from the Midwest it does not seem that cold to me, so I don't have a really heavy winter jacket, but I am wondering if I need a heavy one for DD.

Re: Winter Jacket for LO?
We've bought heavy winter coats for our kiddo the last 2 years, and with the exception of playing out in the snow (so maybe 1 or 2 days a year) she's never worn them. We get more use out of hoodies and button up sweaters with other layers.
Last year we got a carter's jacket that has an outer shell with a fleece zip out liner. It was perfect for our mild winters. Mostly we used them separate.
We wore both when in the snow or outside in the cold for a long time, but mostly used sweatshirts, fleece or long sleeve shirts. Then the outer water resistent shell was easy to put on for the rain. This year I bought that as well as a pure rain jacket. With her walking now we will be out in the rain rather than under the stroller or umbrella.
I bought DS a mid weight fleece jacket at Target today for $ 16, he also has a rain jacket so we can layer those on rainy days. I will most likely get him a heavier jacket but we do a lot of fall/winter camping and so he will need it when playing outside while camping.
this is what we did for DS, but he was still in his infant carrier so it was easy to throw a blanket over him.
