February 2012 Moms

Alright Feb Momma's

I'm on number two and I really feel like this one is going fast except my sono isn't for another two weeks. Oh how impatient I am. Okay but the real reason I am posting. My last child was born in Aug so I didn't have to worry about a coat. But I live in Kansas and well we get snow so I'm wondering what other people are going to do for a coat.  I'm not spending 80 or more on a coat for a few months.

  • I live in CO, and was pregnant during winter with DS.  I made it through the snow and winter with a hoodie and a big floofy sweater.  And I was HOT.  All the time.  LOL  I am looking for a "wrap" kind of thing, this time.  Can be worn after....

  • I'm wondering this same thing!   I don't know what I'm going to do though because I'm only 5'0 tall so if I go out and find a cheap coat even and get it the next size up so I can zip it, the arms will be too long!  My mom said she just always wore a sweatshirt underneath her coat and left it unzipped.  I currently have a North Face winter coat that has the 2 coats together. I should be able to zip the fleece one underneath for awhile since it stretches more and I'll just have to leave the main coat part open I guess.  The joys of being pregnant and petite.

  • DD was born in May and I live in NY so needed a coat through March for sure. I just wore my regular coat - it's a longer wool coat with 4 buttons. I would just button the top 2 buttons and it worked great :)

  • Oh, how I miss Kansas.  I had July baby, but my sister had a December baby and is gearing up for a January one as well.

I'm pretty sure she just borrowed bigger men's coats when she needed too and otherwise just wore sweatshirts and those long big sweaters big enough to wrap around.

Try a second hand store or one of those consignment events.

Rhea Lana's is having an event in Wichita on the 25th-28th of this month.

  • Someone posted a link last night to a puffy coat from WalMart's maternity section. I think it was only $15. I'm looking at getting that. I think I just wore a scarf and gloves with my sweaters last time. Although, I was done in Dec - Jan is the worst around here.

This! Im thinking about buying one as well. WIth my last pregnancy I just wore my coat unzipped with hoodies underneath but at the end I got so big that even my hoodies didnt fit so I ended up having to wear DH's Hoodies and Coats even though He is a foot taller than me and broad and I am tiny. Im sure I looked funny but at least I was warm

  • I have some friends who just had a tailor move the buttons on their regular coat... after the baby was born, they moved them back!

Ask around to your mom friends as well - I'm borrowing a maternity coat that a friend no longer needs (mostly for our December trip to NYC... it freezes in Dallas, but not often!).

  • Wal-Mart has the $15 bubbly coat other people were talking about, they also have peacoats and other options for under $30. I was going to check a maternity consignment store as well. My mom suggested I just wear one of my husbands coats.
