After weeks of daily attempts at various names (from here, books, suggestions, etc) and my husband vetoing every boy name, we finally called a truce. I would pick the girl name and he would pick the boy name.
He really likes Alistair. I?m not sold. Everyone either hates the name or hates the spelling (I keep hearing the ?Stair? part is too strong in the spelling. All we can agree on completely for the boy name is the middle name Eugene after both of our grandfathers. Alistair Eugene. How does that sound to you?
For the girl name, I picked Vivienne. He wants Vivienne Leigh. I like Vivienne Elise. Which one flows better to you?
I have lurked here forever and know you guys are brutally honest. Opinions on these names, please?
Re: Alistair/Vivienne...help please!
I LOVE Vivienne, and am more partial to Vivienne Leigh. I think it flows better.
Alistair is nms, especially with Eugene.
I really like Alistair Eugene
Vivienne Leigh is a bit too Gone With the Wind for me (even though she was beautiful). I like Vivienne Elise.
I love both names! I think Alistair Eugene is GREAT.
Don't name your daughter Vivienne Leigh. I love, love, love Gone with the Wind, but Vivien Leigh is kind of a tragic figure (she suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder for years, and it destroyed her relationship with husband Lawrence Olivier).
Vivienne Elise is lovely.
It is not necessarily MS, but I love the sound of Alistair Eugene. If the "stair" bothers you, maybe choose a different spelling?
I love Vivienne Leigh/Elise! It is beautiful! Vivienne Leigh reminds me of the old school actress. I prefer Vivienne Elise, but either one sounds great together.
I thought about a different spelling of Alistair but definitely do not want anything "unique".
What other spellings are appropriate?
Vivienne is beautiful! (Vivianna is on our list at the moment) I love the nn Vivi.
I think Vivienne Leigh sounds really nice, but I'm thinking of the actress Vivien Leigh - she played Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.
I don't like Alistair, no matter how its spelled - I'm glad you two came up with a compromise but I think you both should still have veto rights - I couldn't name my child something I hated.
Eugene gets a thumbs up but only because it's a family name.
Alistair Eugene is fine. I'm with alliejo, though--don't name your daughter Vivienne Leigh.

I agree with both parts of this.

Always thought I'd be a "mom of many"--now just hoping to be a "mom of one or two more!"
Vivienne Leigh.
and I like Alistair.
If you agreed to split the naming, you need to stick to it.
I'm not a fan of Alistair- I agree with the pp who said it's a bit dramatic. It makes me think of Fred Astaire.
I like Vivienne Elise best for a girl!
Vivienne Elise is actually our top girl name, except we're using Vivian instead of the French spelling. I much prefer Elise or Leigh. I personally adore Alistair. It's a big guilty pleasure name for me that I would love to use someday. So, yes. I love them.
Ditto!
I like Alistair. It was our boy name for awhile, but I eventually vetoed because I couldn't think of anything I liked to shorten it to and it seemed a little cumbersome to call a little kid "Alistair" all the time. I think Alistair Eugene sounds okay.
And I like Vivienne Elise better.
